Can any Wall Street types here calculate exactly how much a 51% stake would be?

Yeah, If anything it will mean the best IP's will be picked up by some troll who will sit on them like "homeworld" and only after getting some really loving stupid promote for the IP by a nostalgic company (like on par with Duke Nukem Forever) will that troll ever think of giving out that IP for a new-project. Of the whole portfolio the only thing I straight up could even consider buying would be the Street Fighter IP. Ducktails was a limited run, and Disney will never sell you the rights (or make a new game beyond just relauches of it) Remember me? poo poo Devil May Cry? New game sold like poo poo. Resident Evil? Has this ever been a blockbuster game since RE3 ? Bionic Commando? nope. Ace Attorney? Nintendo exclusive, they blocked porting to X360 the first 3; dont think it's going to change now that Nintendo is in even deeper poo poo now than 2012. Dead rising? welcome to ET hell. Lost planet. Why would you do this junk if you have BF or COD/Halo ? Okami: their last big indie game To MrHorse: http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/data/pdf/result/2013/full/result_2013_full_01.pdf equity, plus net working capital = the value. 51% of that is your rough answer. If you really want to do meatball math, assume the Motorola precedent for book value discount for patents, for a distressed sale to roughly assume what you would be paying for the Capcom 51% stake; answer is anywhere between those two numbers.

Resident Evil hasn't been a blockbuster but its sales are consistently pretty strong. Also Mega Man 9 and 10 sold pretty well, so there's money in that IP too. The new Devil May Cry sold like poo poo because of loving insane amounts of bad PR, not because nobody likes DMC (all the games up to and including DMC4 were successful). I'd think Resident Evil was the most important IP, they're still making lovely movies (or were till lately) that make a ton of money, there's always money in zombies. The last two numbered ones haven't set the world on fire, but there's definitely still money to squeeze from that. And Monster Hunter? That's them isn't it?

Releasing a slightly changed version of SF4 every other year, plus DLCs, and you're swimming in money.

Four. Of those. I thought the other 'revision' ones would only sell a small amount to people who were crazy for them, But what the hell do I know is the big lesson here.

Street Fighter, like Marvel vs Capcom, is an absolute staple of the fighting game scene, so people who are way into it will always want to drop money in order to keep up with the pros. the fighting community obviously adopts each new version after a short period of time, so people have to get on the wagon early in order to be in the know, especially if the developers were able to get their hooks in with each passing version. Capcom could probably print money with SF and MvC series alone.

Yeah, I got it slightly wrong with RE6, but the series is still their top selling one. The numbers are a bit weird for other games though, like RE4, because they list the GC, PS2 and Wii versions as different ones.

Thumbs up for trying new stuff with the series, but the execution was terrible. Being forced to cart around useless guns with no ammo, invincible zombies on the floor you can't do anything about until you stand on them, awful driving sections... O:RC was just.. Ugh. But it apparently sold as well as expected. My guess is both are mostly from pre-orders. Antti posted:EA buys Capcom, next Megaman is a F2P mobile game with Dungeon Keeper's IAP model.

They wouldn't be in this situation if they budgeted their games in a sensible manner rather than trying to do RE6. I don't think anything will really happen with this, some large conglomerate nobody's heard of will buy Capcom if it happens.

I could see Sony doing pretty friggin well with Capcom. CoolGuy, I don't think it causes any issues due to the rights of use being signed prior to the buyout. Grandfather clauses.

Honestly, nobody is going to buy them, and if somebody does, it'll be [insert chinese mobile game company here]. The amount of yen they are asking is astronomical, and there is no way anybody could get a ROI from them. It's more an issue of how bad things are getting for Capcom that the shareholders are willing to do this. More likely, it opens up the possibility for a Square style merger in the future, or perhaps an auction of some of their classic properties.
