It was a pretty good option, considering you didn't have Grasp or Dash. The only thing it couldn't clash was the special effect on Returning which kept you from clashing.

The hard thing for Arec, though, is that Cherri doesn't have anything on her Styles. That's her whole thing: clash like crazy, evade everything else. I think most of the damage she's dealt has been life loss, actually. (EDIT: Yeah, 8 of the 12 so far.) So Arec is kind of behind the 8-ball on this one. :/

Things Arec can actually disable:

Fear: Burst
Mercy: Grasp, Stare (if it actually ever gets used as an attack)
Hesitation: Drive, Dash, Blind, Dreamscape, part of Mirage
Recklessness: ??? I don't know if this counts style modifiers. If so, only Dreamscape cares.

This doesn't mean that Arec doesn't have plenty of effects that Cherri finds annoying. Returning is Arec's trump against my bullshit.

Rulebook, page 21, second paragraph under clash:

If any player runs out of cards during the clash, then both players skip directly to recycling their top attack pairs (without activating any End of Beat effects) and a new beat begins.

Our discards should be Crimson Grasp and Mirrored Grasp, respectively.

Generally, though, I think this is one of the worst matchups I've seen. I'll gladly explain further after the match is over, but I'm holding my nose to finish this out. Really, I've been holding my nose since about Beat 2. I apologize for being really sluggish this match, but it's just been a big ball of frustration for me.

(It would have been nice to know about that ruling, too, but live and learn. Well. Probably more die and learn, at this rate.)
