Mother Panshaw HP: 43/43 AC: 14 Fort: 15 Ref: 14 Will: 17 Surges: 9/10 Matilda is eager to be done with these wretched mines and is all too happy to press past the villager's captors, her shaky breathing quickly becoming a strained laugh when she sees what Maribeth and Rachel are up to. As another explosion sounds off Matilda glares at the former entrance to the cave and snaps out "serves the bastards right, let's hope they were crushed." Smoothing out her appearance as she can, Matilda returns to her cheery self and gives an awkward curtsy to the group "Now that the immediate deadly situation has passed, I am Mother Panshaw an retired herbalist and a worker of some minor magic. Happy to know you all, and my thanks for saving us." Matilda's words hang in the air for a moment before she continues "Anyway, Miss Puteshe I imagine these allies of yours will be eager to see you've completed your mission." Matilda finally releases her tight grasp on the bucket and let's it drop into the soil "Unless you have other reasons for being out here? I mentioned before I'd be willing to help you out and I stick to my promises." quote:No immediate concerns for Matilda, she likely has no idea what's been happening for the last few days. I'm good with the group linking back up and moving on to the next task. Successful Businessmanga fucked around with this message at 10:38 on Apr 4, 2016 |

Liberation It has been four days since you left the camp, heading west towards the village of Rucksberg on a mission of liberation. Appraised of the situation on your arrival, you make the tactical decision to split up, with the women in your group infiltrating the mine, and the men taking the long way around. Jericho, Plowforged and Duke headed north, encountering a pair of sentries guarding the northern river crossing. They were able to carefully dispatch their foes in time, and with no witnesses or survivors your crossing has gone unnoticed. Plowforged and Duke move on to meet with the others at the mine, as Jericho stays behind to commune with the waterfall spirit that had come to your aid, vowing to help when the time comes. Nadya, Chaedi and Maribeth entered the mine posing as villagers, planning to scout the place out and secure supplies if possible. Finding the mine under the management of a beetle witch named Hakara, they talked their way through the entrance and into the mine proper. Once inside, they met with two villagers - Rachel (NPC) and Matilda, who helped them make their escape, along with a group of other women from the town. In the process, Hakara and her Orcish cadre were sealed in the mine. Meeting back up on the road leading between the mine and Rucksberg, you begin to make your way to the south. On Maribeth's advice, you break off from the road as it begins to wind closer to the river and take a path through a wooded trail, a few miles out. Stopping to take a moment to collect yourselves, you take a final chance to prepare for and plan your assault. You guys are just northeast of the village, on the village side of the river. (basically, you're just a little past the top right corner.) From what you can remember from the briefing Mari gave, and with refreshers along the way, you know the following: 1. The Orcs are mainly active at night, with limited patrols during the day throughout the village and down the roads. 2. The warehouse is full of supplies and Mari should be able to get you in, but it is always guarded 3. The bell tower is where most of the Orcs' birds are roosting 4. The church has a steeple, there may or may not be birds there The majority of the orc force is about an hour west of town on foot, where they have fortified the former lord's estate. The Orcs, lead by a witch and bearing the symbol of a closed talon on their foreheads, are a force of all female soldiers. They have rounded up the men of the village and imprisoned them at the manor, but it is unknown if they are still there or if any remain alive. As you prepare your plans, Rachel approaches the group. She is young, in her early 20s, with bronze skin and an athletic build. The smell of gunpowder clings to her the same way it does to Maribeth since you left the mine. "Hey - I've been talking to the other girls and looking through our supplies. If you'll give us something to do, I think we can be a lot of help. We've all worked in mines or mills or at least with the equipment for years. Tear up roads, blow up bridges or buildings, we can do any of that without any problems, as long as we don't run into any Orcs in the process. Just let me know what you want us to do." (Specialists - Rachel and the villager group she is with are a sapper team. You can assign them to a task during your assault and they will do their best to perform the task. They will almost certainly lose in physical combat, but are capable of damaging infrastructure, destroying buildings, and creating distractions provided they have room to work.) Maribeth speaks up next. "I'd also like to help - I'll stay with the group but keep my distance. I've been hunting with my powder rifle for years. (Specialist - Maribeth is a Sniper. She will follow the group from well behind as they proceed and attempt to help as best as she can at long distances. Maribeth will automatically bloody a target or kill a bloodied target as long as she hits, but takes time to position herself and reload.) Garret and his remaining scout split off from the group at this point, moving out to keep an eye on the roads to warn you on any encroaching scouting parties. Rucksbergs' liberation awaits. Make your final plans and be heroes!

Mother Panshaw HP: 43/43 AC: 14 Fort: 15 Ref: 14 Will: 17 Surges: 9/10 Matilda keeps an eye glued over her shoulder as the group of rescued villagers are hauled away from their imprisonment, there was no knowing for sure that the beasts wouldn't dig themselves out of the mines and begin their pursuit. It's no surprise that she is delighted to see the ragtag group of adventurers young Nadya had boasted about before, giving a fairly pleasant smile to the assorted members of the group. Being that she had already pledged to help these people with their tasks Matilda introduces herself to her new companions with a fairly stiff nod "Pleased to make your acquaintance, I am Mother Panshaw. Miss Puteche has made it clear that you all intend on saving us all and I aim to make sure that you are able to." Crossing her arms Matilda lets out a soft him as she ponders the situation "I'm certainly not equipped tongi storming a town head on, but I can make sure that nature itself is on our side as we make the attempt at liberating Rucksberg." Giving some thought to the information that Maribeth lays out, Matilda nods and offers up her take on the situation "Turning Rachel and the other villagers to the task of destroying the bell tower could be worth our while, the orcs love their birds from what I've seen and putting them in dance is quite likely to make the filth reckless to a point where we can take advantage of them. If there were somewhere safe in town we could secure to make a retreat to it would be wise to find quote:Matilda is still armorless and without weapon, I imagine during the hike to regroup she could probably find a branch or something that could be quickly fashioned into a usable staff, but armor is still a issue if we're gonna be entering combat of some kind.

Duke Stealing a long gaze at Rachel as she brushes past, Duke eventually focuses his attention on the matters at hand. Addressing Matilda, he offers, "Seems reasonable; the bell tower is right in the centre of town. If we can get the orcs to cluster there and then push down on them, they'll have their backs against the river. Charging out from Mari's shop will do just that... In case there're more birds around, she and I should be set up to shoot them down, and pick off anything on the ground if and when no other targets present themselves." "How hard would it be for us to set up in that stable, without being noticed? It seems like it would give us a good eyeline on the steeple.."

Nadya Nadya feels a strong bit of pride in introducing Matilda and the rescued villagers to everyone, telling them very pointedly about Haraka, Sharpe, Versili and Vrek. "It's like they have an entire corps of abominations or something... and I doubt they'd do us all a favor and starve in those mines. We'll have to expect them sometime, I think." Studying the map Nadya gestures to the bell tower. "I like the idea of toppling the tower, but don't birds fly? We'll need some way to keep them stuck in there as it collapses... or we'll just have to accept that some panicky witch is going to come back to town after we disturb her birds. We need to scout things out first, I'm sure an ideal target will present itself. These orcs don't seem big on any discipline that isn't bird grooming." (I think I picked this up to keep it from rotting so here's a weapon, Porpoise. Beats being unarmed.) quote:Flint Axe

You creep along the northern edge of the village, sticking to the woods as you move towards the stables, taking a moment to check out a few notable points. Checking on Mari's shop from the tree line, you hear a commotion coming from just past the building. "Something's going on at the Inn..." Mari notes with concern. You cannot make out much but there are quite a few Orcs milling about and more coming in. Whatever is going on seems to be providing a decent distraction, at least long enough for you to get into position. Moving through the the woods, you make an attempt to catch a good line of sight on the bell tower but it's just too cut off to see much. As the Orcs converge on the inn, a few birds wing down from the tower, emerging from someplace out of sight. You approach the stables from the rear, carefully moving alongside the building. As you approach the door, you realize that you hear some murmuring coming from the other side, though it is impossible to tell who is speaking or what they are speaking about. (gonna try to update this in the next few days if possible)

Nadya A little too eagerly Nadya jumps to the rear stable door and tries to eavesdrop, practically shoulder checking the flimsy wood. She immediately looks over her shoulder and turns red, mouthing an apology. Stealth 10 and Perception 11... the roll streak dream is dead.

Mother Panshaw HP: 43/43 AC: 14 Fort: 15 Ref: 14 Will: 17 Surges: 9/10 Matilda offers a conciliatory pat on the arm to Mari "We'll get there soon enough to put a stop to all of this nonsense, never you worry." Hefting the unwieldy, in her hands, axe that she'd borrowed and falls in line as the group marches their way around the town. Nearly forgetting herself, Matilda nearly allows a stressful guffaw escape her lips when the young woman Nadya nearly slams her face against the stable wall in an attempt to listen in on the occupant muttering faintly inside. Deciding she isn't one to be left out, the old woman places her ear to the wall and begins to whisper ever so quietly, her senses spreading out from her body an inch at a time until she was aware of everything which was no longer alive. The tone of the Mother's whispers changes slightly as she goes and the information flowing into her mind changes with it, details of those illnesses laying latent in the surroundings coming to the forefront of her thoughts. quote:Whoops, got kinda busy and the thread got buried in my control panel, sorry.

With gusto, Nadya slams her head into the stable door, eliciting a sound of alarm from within. Reeling for a moment, Nadya is nearly bowled over by the swinging stable doors, saved as Matilda drags her out of the way just in the nick of time. Stumbling into the light, an Orc with a tremendous Eagle perched on her shoulder stares at you, stunned for a moment before letting out a sharp whistle to call her companions into the fray. (orcs won initiative) The orc at the door sics her Eagle on Matilda and fires a pair of arrows north at Nadya, but fails to land any attack. A second Eagle rips from the stable, a clumsy dive easily dodged by Nadya. The Eagle's handler lines up a careful shot and clips Panshaw in the side with an arrow, doing 6 damage to Matilda. From further in the stables, one of the Orc's casters, a shaman draped in live hawks whispers a chant in Orcish, bolstering their avian companions. Her birds swarm around her, defending the shaman. Mother Panshaw Hooboy this is gonna be a long OOC section , but how can I resist when you give me a good ole bunched up group. Pain. Pain is the only thing that properly registers in Matilda's mind as the arrow rips through her sorely unprotective clothing and blood begins to seep down her side. She'd been smacked around in the mines a few times, but nothing had ever really been something that would threaten her life, all of a sudden the situation was much more real and things came into focus. Now that she wasn't responsible for a handful of people who couldn't protect themselves she could show these filthy beasts what she'd learned from nature over the course of their occupation. Plucking a prickly ball of brambles from within her hair Matilda held it in front of her and blew gently on the little object, within a second it had begun to float and all at once the air in front of the old woman was a flurry of sharp thorns paying back the single arrow she had been hit with 10 fold. Tightening her grasp on the haft of the axe she had borrowed from young Nadya, Matilda let out a ragged breath and continued with her assault. Pointing at the Orc nearest to her she began to exhale a seemingly unending breath, the air around the group going still as a vicious buffeting of wind formed inside the barn and violently shoved the occupants out into the open. Letting out a cough as the spell finished, Matilda slammed the head of the axe into the ground using the gnarled old thing as a cane of sorts to keep her standing. Matilda wasn't quite done yet, pulling on some of the earliest lessons Mother Aldebert had gifted her Matilda fell into a final casting. Letting out a brief whisper in the primordial tongue, the soil beneath Matilda's feet began to writhe for a moment before stilling. Before long there's a creaking from within the barn and a flurry of motion as greenery and vines burst into being within the stables preventing a retreat deeper into cover. Tilting her head back in the direction of the party Matilda shudders with exertion and motions toward the barn "I believe the rest is up to you all!" pre:Mother Panshaw HP: 37/43 (THP:0 BV:21) AC: 14 Passive Insight: 15 Surges: 9/10 (V: 10) For: 14 Passive Perception: 20 Initiative: +5 Ref: 14 Action Points: 0/1 Speed: 6 Will: 17 Languages: Primordial Vision: Normal At Will Encounter Daily Tending Strike [ ] Second wind [ ] Summon Natural Ally Magic Stones [x] Nature's Growth [ ] Seed of Healing Grasping Tide [x] Thorn Spray Vine Rope (PA) [ ] Verdant Touch (PA) Senses of the Wild (PA) [x] Wind Wall quote:

Mother Panshaw Having taken a moment after the vicious assault the eagle had dealt her Matilda takes a quick step back, hauling her borrowed weapon along side her. Seeing that her rusty form didn't quite take and the vines she had summoned had been wrested from her control, the old woman begins her quiet chant again and causes a new burst of foliage to surge from the ground around the retreating orcs. Planting the axe blade first in the ground, the tone of Matilda's chant shifts and the grass under Her feet begins to wither away as a surge of water flits from beneath her and off into the barn where it battered the now tangled up orcs at high speed. pre:Mother Panshaw HP: 26/43 (THP:0 BV:21) AC: 14 Passive Insight: 15 Surges: 8/10 (V: 10) For: 14 Passive Perception: 20 Initiative: +5 Ref: 14 Action Points: 0/1 Speed: 6 Will: 17 Languages: Primordial Vision: Normal At Will Encounter Daily Tending Strike [ ] Second wind [ ] Summon Natural Ally Magic Stones [x] Nature's Growth [x] Seed of Healing Grasping Tide [x] Thorn Spray Vine Rope (PA) [ ] Verdant Touch (PA) Senses of the Wild (PA) [x] Wind Wall quote:Move: Shift to F -3
