Release date JP December 17, 1993 NA February, 1995 EU December 8, 1995 Price $79.99! Yes it's the price of a collectors edition for any other game. Info SEGA finally got off their duff and decided to release Phantasy Star 4 in North America, like a year after it came out in Japan! Even though they're charging a crazy price I think it's worth it because from all reports from Japan and also gaming magazines this game looks to be way better than Phantasy Star 3. Here's what magazines are saying: Die Hard Game Fan posted:The ultimate Sega RPG has finally arrived. Although it mis-translated and has little connection to the previous games because of this, the game itself is the same and is undeniably one of the greatest RPGs ever fashioned. The graphics are beautiful, the music is powerful, and the non-stop original ideas make this cartridge an absolute must-own for the RPG enthusiast, chintzy packaging or not. 97% EGM posted:Having blown through the second and third games, I awaited PS4 as a welcome challenge and was not disappointed. The new magic technique where you combine magic spells was a plus. Everything from the large quest to the many characters will keep you glued to the TV; I know I was. Or maybe it was the fact that the game costs almost $100. Ouch! It's a great game, but the price will frighten many players away. 8.5 GamePro posted:Phantasy Star IV is the latest installment in the monster of all Genesis RPGs, yet it never gives you the sense that you're about to embark on something special. Ah, but you are! In the end, End of the Millennium is amazingly rich in detail and will keep your TV screen bright as you explore everything and everywhere long after the rest of the house slumbers. 4/5 Gameplay Like the first 3 games, Phantasy Star 4 is a turn based RPG. Where it differs is in the additions to the combat. Instead of having to spend time selecting the same attacks over and over you can create Macros which will let you select one menu option and the characters will auto attack according to what you set up. This makes grinding a lot easier. It also makes it easier to do the next new feature; combination spells. By having different characters cast different spells they can combine and create a new, more powerful spell. The game boasts a mind boggling 15 different combinations! Another cool feature is the ability to battle inside of vehicles! Characters! Alys Brangwin. Famous hunter, teaches Chaz about hunting. Uses boomerangs. Chaz Ashley. Apprentice of Alys. Uses swords. Hahn Mahlay. Scholar. Studies under Professor Holt. Uses daggers and magic. Rune Walsh. Mysterious friend of Alys. Uses powerful magic. Gryz. Motavian warrior. He and his sister Pana are the only two survivors of Molcum. Uses axes. Rika. Numan created by the AI Seed. A clone/descendant of Nei from Phantasy Star 2. Uses claws. Wren. Android who has been functioning for over 1000 years. Uses guns. Demi. Android created by Wren to regulate the Nurvus central control system of Motavia. Uses guns. Raja. Crazy old Desolisian priest who keeps telling stupid jokes. Uses magic. Kyra Tierney. A young esper from Dezolis. Uses boomerangs. I cannot wait for this to come out. I've been having to use my SNES if I wanted to play an RPG so it's good to finally have one to play on my Genesis.

My parents wouldn't buy me this game for Christmas because of how loving expensive it was. I did, however, rent it constantly until I beat it. It was so hazardous back in the day, praying to the gods of rental games that some rear end-hat didn't delete your save game. The cartridge weighed noticeably more than any other genesis game. Why the gently caress was the price so high? Did it have circuitry made of pure gold? But, uh... yeah. I've totally been looking forward to the impending release of PS4. Now that I have a job and money to buy things with, I can afford it. Wizard Whateley fucked around with this message at 19:01 on Jun 22, 2014 |

As good as this looks, I don't think I could justify paying that much for a single game. I think I'll wait for it to come to the Sega Channel instead.

People happily pay that much for Square RPGs so I don't know why people are all aghast at paying that much for a SEGA RPG. Maybe you were burnt on 3?

To be fair 3 was a train wreck exploding in slow motion. Quite litterly, I felt like I was in slow motion playing it. Nothing but regret playing that game, and that comes from someone who chose to got Marble Madness for his birthday

3 had good ideas. I thought the lineage system was pretty cool but it didn't amount to much. And the way the battle music changed depending on how well you were doing sounded good in theory but I always wanted to just listen to the music right when the battle started instead of the actual battle musics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7AbFYuOIaQ

Oh god, it's like someone let put their cat on the Keyboard and then sprayed them with water or something.

For real this game was like fifteen years ahead of its time. Every game that doesn't have Macro and Talk To Party is fundamentally broken.
