huh, i didn't know thisquote:At the time of his death, Hartman was preparing to voice Zapp Brannigan, a character written specifically for him on Groening's second animated series Futurama.[59] After Hartman's death, Futurama's lead character Philip J. Fry was named in his honor, and Billy West took over the role of Brannigan.[59] West later said that he purposely tweaked Zapp's voice to better match Hartman's intended portrayal.[59]

There's something weird about the Simpsons going to a super clean line art, just makes them look... weird, brings out the worst of the design which worked because it was so "scruffy", so to speak

Based on the pay scale listed on wikipedia, if you're one of the top voice actors on the show, like Harry Shearer guess how much money you've made since 1990? If you said $92,305,000 you'd be close.

That little farewell was entirely appropriate and nice. Just a shame that it came as a post-script to a ridiculous terrible episode.

Justin Godscock posted:Which is why I've said many times The Simpsons will end once the voice actors get too expensive (or if one of the major ones dies). It'll be when they get too expensive. Harry Shearer has already started talking to the press about how much he'd be willing to give up for some of the syndication and DVD money, which they will never budge on, and given his periodic complaints about the declining quality and his failure to participate in some of the outside merchandising stuff, clear he's getting tired of it. Most long-running popular shows in which the actors still enjoy doing it only cancel because of the ballooning cast salaries and the Simpsons has only been immune because the actors have voluntarily accepted some pay cuts. There's going to be a point when Shearer is tired of doing that, and it will be Shearer, and from there, it will depend on how long it takes a second voice actor to jump off before it gets the axe.

He does play a ton of roles on the show, but none of them are actually in the Simpsons family and network executives would have zero compunctions about running the show without him if they felt like they could get two more seasons of decent Nielsens out of it. It depends on whether other members of the cast would drop or whether they've come to rely on the money.

Remember when they made that cartoon dinosaur movie for kids like right after Jurassic Park and Yeardley Smith was in it and even children immediately went "That's Lisa Simpson, what is she doing in this dinosaur cartoon?" Someone put this in a Buzzfeed article about growing up in the 90s. Bangarang.

Yeardley Smith was also in Maximum Overdrive, which is a great horrible movie. It costs almost $300k to air a 30-second ad during a new Simpsons episode. I hope these two facts enlighten you all.

I always like Simpsons threads for the people who call themselves big fans of the show but have only seen ~40% of the episodes. It's almost as bad as Star Trek fans and their idea of "personal canon". Except worse because at least Star Trek fans never missed entire seasons.

Lisa becomes enamoured with a new girl at school who is sporty, athletic but also brainy. When Marge finds out she purposely sets up dates with boys for Lisa out of fear of never getting grandchildren. Mean while Bart becomes addicted to pornography and becomes a new visionary pornographer. Guest starring Ellen page and Ron Jeremy.
