to the extent that he talks about politics, Louie C.K. has got some good beliefs. He is ignorant about the specifics of this and that (for instance, he literally carries kruggerands in his pocket believing that to be a good investment) but on the whole I can't find anything wrong with his views, though some tumblrites would probably find him to be "problematic"

I suppose it's a good investment from the perspective that a mugger would be in a really good mood after you handed them over to him. It's like the ultimate mugger money.

Comedians are usually less informed about politics than they believe, which makes it embarrassing when they try to pronounce on them seriously.

Honestly, start by reading or even just watching the movie version of All The President's Men. It will at least disabuse you of the notion that Watergate was just a hotel burglary.

Everyone's always blowing Reagan and his "rhetoric" and what not but aside from coining a few masterful terms like welfare queen, he wasn't some incredible orator. People worship him because the modern conservative movement absolutely needs a contemporary conservative figure to lionize and for historical reasons outside his control, he won by default. I mean poo poo, Reagan's own policies failed the 2008 "Reagan Test" that was supposed to be some pseudo-religious standard of devotion. It's not that Reagan was anything special, it's just that his target audience is made up of the worst scum in the country who willingly praise him for poo poo he didn't even do or say.

What it lacked in intensity (right now), compared to the ongoing Syrian/Iraqi strife at least, it makes up for in unending length. I mean seriously, it's a conflict older than almost every person on this board (probably), and has flared pretty hot at times. That's something people get invested in.

Wikipedia says: 21,500 casualties (1965–2013)[2]

Which doesn't add up to even a single year of the Syrian Civil War.

It involves Yaakov Kirschen, a large part of my emotional capital is tied up in despising everything from his art to his opinions. Syria needs to turn out more bad political cartoons if they want my interest.
