Yeah I'm pretty sure it's also not just poor people who are getting fatter. My town is really fat but is pretty affluent. It's just that food is cheap entertainment and when you go out to eat you are almost invariably going to be eating at least twice the amount of calories you should be eating because that's just how they portion/serve poo poo. Fast food is particularly bad about this because you'll eat what looks like a reasonableness volume of food but it's so dense it will literally be all the stuff you should have eaten in a day (without any of the actual nutritional value).

It's a cultural problem, not a poors are lazy/dumb or food desert problem.

It's still the cheaper, easier, quicker option to just go to McDonalds instead of heading to the store, going home, using your pots and pans and electricity/gas on the oven you own in the house/apartment you own to make something. And if you've just been working two or three jobs to get home to feed yourself and possibly your family, that quick, easy, cheaper option is pretty tempting.

No it's not. A family eating out at McDonalds is gonna cost at least $20. You take frozen chicken breast from walmarts (1$ a piece) plus some vegetables (like $3-4 worth for the whole family) and some rice on top of it, and you have a better meal that costs half as much as mcdonald and is really loving quick to prepare too. Same goes with just making pasta and sauce, etc....

Stop with the bullshit excuses.

Yeah but it's not like people have gotten dumber or something. I know it's easy to blame the individual for something like this because any particular individual can just start eating less poo poo and they will lose weight but there are extenuating factors that push people on a statistical whole country basis in the direction of unhealthy diets. Junk food is a cheap form of entertainment and coincides quite well with a sedentary lifestyle, about the only joy some people get in their day at the office is their snack breaks that they can squeeze throughout the day.

If you're going to tackle obesity you need to do it from a top down standpoint with programs that encourage healthier eating and excercise or at least discourage unhealthier eating. Just calling fat people stupid and lazy might be an easy way to make yourself feel better (as if you don't have any self destructive habits that you take comfort in right?) but it's a cultural problem that was set in motion by the way society developed.

that's legit admirable. I'm not making GBS threads on you or saying it's impossible. but I was poor for a lot of my life and that's how I, my family, and all my neighbors did it. my family of 4 spent about 60-70$ a week on food and ate a lot of absolute garbage sometimes cause it was on sale or had coupons or whatever. if that's how you're raised it takes a lot of effort to get to where you are/were and most people just don't have the energy or time when super cheap horrible food is readily available with no effort
