My favorite MOBA lore is still the dota one where a man is made of space and the lore is "Dunno what the gently caress he is, but he shits black holes". I also like the LoL character who is a giant bear. He shoots lightning and roars.quote:focus on character - league of legends lead writer She said this, then proceeded to cut up all the biographies to remove any references to the actual League Of Legends, because that's ruining her creative vision. Also responsible for the Mass Effect Space Baby.

I played LA Noire and thought 'This would make a good film but as a game it loving sucks.' So I don't break the OP's rules; the interrogation options don't always line up with what the character says, it's linear as gently caress despite it's boasts about free roaming investigations, and the main character is revealed to have been having an affair for absolutely no loving reason halfway through. Plus it's by Rockstar, so it's full of bullshit mission failure criteria all over the place.

Bobby Deluxe posted:I played LA Noire and thought 'This would make a good film but as a game it loving sucks.' It's a good example of how decent gameplay and writing and didn't mesh. The story is more or less a mash-up of L.A Confidential, Chinatown, and the Black Dahlia murders. When I first started playing it my roommate was really impressed with how good the characters looked, but when it go to the interrogation, the facial expressions/signs of guilt were so exaggerated it was like clown mode was turned on. Plus the "hunt for clues" part was just tedious. The story wasn't half bad; corrupt LA men of power doing what they want, dogged police detectives trying to solve mysterious crimes. The Arson investigation was one of my favorite game stories ever. It just really suffered from trying to be open-world 1940s LA with nothing exciting to do aside from the main quest. The entire city was more or less traffic blocking you from the next objective, and the random street crime you had to chase down because you couldn't shoot the criminal. Rockstar probably knows they dropped the ball on that one and made no plans for a sequel. Red Dead Redemption 2 on the other hand will probably be amazing.

Banner Saga and Gunpoint were well written. They provided great dialogue while informing the player on gameplay mechanics and advancing the story. I can't recall any other games with "good writing."
