Yes I'm milquetoast because I acknowledge that the context in which art was created is important.

I like stuff from today, I like stuff from back then. I would have to be an idiot to say production quality has not improved, so I'm glad I didn't say that. I don't recall saying the truth is in the middle either. Weird. Anyway, old is not the same thing as corny. That's my whole point. Are you so wrapped up in technique that you can't admit a song form 1984 can be good? Where does winning come in to it? poo poo is either worth a listen or it isn't.

There's lovely music today. There was lovely music then. Neither era wins.

This.

And twenty years from now, many of you who are convinced that the music you listen to now is really good will be having your music called poo poo by the next generation who will be saying that their music is better and yours is outdated, corny garbage. It's the circle of life. We all like to think that what we grew up on/came of age to/etc., will stand the test of time immemorial, but all of us really like some artists/bands that people a few years from now will say is total crap.

Big band->Oldies/Doo-wop->Acid/70's Rock->Disco->80's pop/new wave->Glam->80's Metal->Grunge->Post-grunge alternative->Nu Metal->Emo...and on it goes. Of those genres I just quickly put down without much thought, all of them contain fans who will say that the one or two genres preceding the current one they're in suck dick and anyone who listened or listens to it doesn't know anything.

I listened and still listen to stuff that many people here would mock or at least look down on as sub-standard to today's music (I'm 37), and when some people here who are in their early/mid-20s get to my age, they'll be defending their current musical tastes to a group of younger people who will call current music poo poo as to compared to whatever people will be listening to in fifteen years.

I've heard a lot of people talk poo poo on Nine Inch Nails for example, but they're looking at it in retrospect. I remember when Pretty Hate Machine came out 25 years ago, and we were like "What the gently caress is this? It's bad as hell." What was groundbreaking to us back then is now archaic, and out of style, especially to people who weren't there when it happened.

Beastie Boys weren't rap, they were rock music with sing-talking. like Beck. that's why they get played on alternative/classic rock stations and no other rappers do.

Some of their songs were rock songs but 90% of them were rap

You ever click a thread to read and the op just ain't no good?
I mean his brain is soggy, his text is mushed, and his jokes be just like wood.
So you try to play it off like you think you can by sayin that he's cool. And yo friend says man he just bein polite he ain't cool nuh-uh that's bull.
So yo heart starts pumpin and you think of a lie like sayin that you already five'd. And the op says man there's plenty of posts so he piles some more on your plate.
While the stinky jokes steamin your mind starts to dreamin of the moment the thread gets gassed and then you look at the thread and your brains fully rotted and there's posts that look like cheese.
And so you say that's it I gotta leave this place I dont care what these people think, im just sitting here makin myself nauseous with these ugly posts that stink.
So you mash backspace while its still open still sick from the poo poo you read and then you run to the fridge for quick relief from a bottle of gut rot whiskey.

Yeah they count but their 1995 album was better than their debut in my humble opinion.

Also they are still putting out music; this video just came out last month and owns:

I love it; they refuse to leave 1993 and are unashamed about it.
Sticky's solo album was incredible and better if you want "deep thoughts" but I am glad they are back to their old school roots in the year of our lord 2014

"The Chronic," and I love that album, always made me laugh since it is completely centered around Dre's love for weed, while when he was in NWA and rapped on "Express Yourself," he was adamant about how bad weed was for you and that he would never do it since "it's known to give a brother brain damage, and brain damage on the mic don't manage."

That's because Dre can't write lyrics to save his life. Ice Cube wrote nearly everything on Straight Outta Compton, Eazy-Duz-It too. The Chronic was mostly written by Snoop and the Chronic 2001 was mostly ghost-written by Jay-Z of all people (only getting credit for Still D.R.E.).

100 Miles and Runnin' spent more time trying to dis Ice Cube than anything else, but then Ice Cube dropped No Vaseline on the next album and that stands up as one of the best dis tracks in rap:
