NEW THREAD - http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3657252 - Welcome to the Destiny beta withdrawal syndrome thread. A new thread will replace this one just ahead of the retail release on the ninth of September. Click this link to go to the second post for commonly sought-for in-game information, such as goon clan information and how to play with us. Currently in progress: Section per section write-ups, fleshing out, completing information. // Coming up after that: Images and visual design. If you have any input about the construction of the OP, additions or want something put into the second post, PM or please preface your post with @DestinyThreadOP and I will get right to it. This thread is rather barebones in favour of having one with proper information up and running for the beta, as desired by the community. If you think you can take over thread duties in time for retail, present a sample OP in September and let us all check it out. 011101000110111101111001001000000111001101110100011011110111001001111001001000000011001000100000011101110110000101110011001000000100111101001011 Activision presents - A Bungie production - DESTINY - To be released September 9th 2014 Genre: Phantasy Star Online FPS MMO CO-OP MULTIPLAYER-ACTION RACER NUDE-MAILBOXDANCER http://www.destinythegame.com Twitter: @DestinyTheGame @Bungie First public unveiling February 17th 2013: http://destiny.wikia.com/wiki/Reveal_Press_Conference IGN's first look: http://me.ign.com/m/en/feature/7968/bungie-s-destiny-a-land-of-hope-and-dreams/ Official Youtube account with what you need: https://www.youtube.com/user/destinygame/videos Once upon a time posted:In the fascinating universe that Destiny takes place in, it was present day when mankind decided that it was a best to be nice to each other and co-operate, a giant leap for mankind took them all the way planet Mars where came upon a city-sized sphere, making the first official contact with alien life. This mysterious existence that came to be known as The Traveller blessed mankind with science and technology from afar, tripling the average lifespan and presenting cures for everything but bad videogames. The greatest Golden Age of mankind had begun, and humans soon spread out to colonize all the heavenly bodies in the solar system. That is the fancier back-story. The time is indeed 700 years from now and all that our freshly created characters know is that there is a mysterious globe hovering over the one remaining city on planet earth and the entire system is littered in ruins of the golden age. The Warlock has access to a self-resurrect or a nuke depending on sub, when it comes to the titan we only know about a great big ground punch that is very risky but quite effective. -------------- PvE pro-tip: Carry weapons able to deal various kinds of damage, some enemies can be very strong, nearly immune to certain kinds. I think that's the client download. You won't be flagged for entry unless you carry the pre-order. Once you have different timezones and regions of sub-clans sorted out I'll add them to the OP (added Euro1), going through the past pages again. And what is up with the non-predownloading of the North American PSN? We've had that in Europe for quite a while, even before the GTA5 pre-load was cracked open. You guys are the ones who need it the most.

Alright, the story has me interested bigtime. If it was a 600+ page scifi book I'd read the heck outta it. Had a good few missions with limaCAT despite the in-game music deafening our voices, a welcome break from doing them solo which is a good fun challenge though it makes you feel that the stronger targets are bulletsponges. What a rush they were, too! Noticing a bit of an improvement of graphical bling in exchange for some framedrops, also noticing the bad AF even more. Sony need to help developers since they are the only ones who know how to get more than paltry AF running. Overall - pumped and pleased. Gonna head to 8 and then work on thread material.

The PS3 version looks better than I thought, considering the age of the console of course: http://guymelef.minus.com/mwPLR8yE37Pmm The largest difference can be seen outdoors, indoors it's real good, though everything that's missing from the PS4 version is clear as day in a face-punching way. Feels like shotguns were made reasonable for this (branched off the main path because it was stable) build instead of being have it or die in close range, really enjoyable fight on Venus, great map too, truly feels like it was designed by people who did their job in the 90's rather than trying to modernize and do what the children and focus groups want for maps. COD mappers should learn from them, and the original IW. I think earth to Crucible is the tutorial, teaching you all you need to know to really get going in the game, then the next step is the Moon, because you got the inter-planetary drive. They should be opening it up if anything as the beta is about twice the size of the alpha. Any impressions from PS3 testers? How does it play and feel?

Static Rook posted:Also, um, did anybody go down those steps in that small garage? Were the crazy high level Exalted Knight and Exalted Acolyte down there in the Alpha? That was a suprise one shot death. Yup! Getting past them led to a dead Ghost and Grimoire card unlock as well as a random loot chest, but now it's come clear that higher level enemies are so much harder to get past. One used to be able to buzz past high ones with ease and even dodge their attacks in the Alpha but now they shoot harder and more accurate. Handcannons feel downtuned from alpha, slower and not really worth bothering with. Like they had more of a punch. Shotguns are still fine for close range PvP but less of the have-it-or-lose weapon they were, and good. Fusion (Charge) rifles are tricky with their charge time and not in everyones taste, but can lead to great success in the field especially on maps with choke points and longer ranges.

It's hard to figure out a good comparative table-like solution comparing classes and subclasses. The jumps so far are all the same between them, melee supers and grenades are what's different but Warlock and Hunter share many of the grenade types and effects. Maybe just beta stuff, maybe the Titan gets something not unique in the third subclass. I'd like to just slap an tarted up excel table in there but settled for reddit links until then. a cop posted:I recommend experimenting and using whatever you gel with in multiplayer. You have to stick in areas with midrange-to-close sightlines for it to work though. Fusion rifles, they feel so much better this time around, I swear the projectiles are larger as to make up for the charge time that previously made them very unforgiving on the user. They served me well on Venus.

The Titans built the walls, the Hunters were scavengers, the Warlocks studied the Traveler and even before the fall had the powers they do. The player characters were special people before their death. I've worn out the rubber on my left DS4 stick to this. Not like I'll be playing anything between the beta going down on the 27th and the retail release. Ghosts n Gopniks fucked around with this message at 02:32 on Jul 19, 2014 |

haveblue posted:What do you do with spinmetal? I think I found this in the alpha once but haven't in the beta. Turn in 20 to a Vanguard or Crucible NPC, first Android you can interact with in the hangar and the Android (or skinny slim Exo?) on the left as you enter the hall of Vanguards. Glimmer, exp and reputation, I believe badges also as rewards. Handy way to level up, always worth going out of your way to pick the stuff especially now. a cop posted:My headcannon is that our ghost is a dumbass and we got the same schpiel he gives every schmuck he brings back from the dead, before they inevitably die again. As the event approaches I'll post reminders, for now it's in the OP top together with CET and GMT times. For now I gotta scram though, thunderstorm.CottonWolf posted:Good stuff. It was Bungie, so I wasn't too worried. Once you step into the actual story of the game it doesn't take long until you learn it's true Bungie, 1994 and on Bungie. Safe to say I'm super happy about what tiny little bit we've experienced so far in story (five missions?)

Was there a rollback? Finished my warlock, got the hunter to six and wrapped the night up with a strike. Today it was like before that session began. Hmm

Reading places like Kotaku and NeoGAF I've found that many people with a negative impression have played the first mission, hit the tower, entered the free-roam part of the game and that's it. Maybe they should consider this Old Russia part more of a tutorial and actually point people around. I don't use Facebook much but that's the only way I can see you doing it. Yep. Or plug a USB stick in.
