Nickelback come from southern Alberta, don't they? That's basically America so you can't give us poo poo about it. I keep petitioning to trade it for fuckin' Michigan, which I think would still be a step up culturally, albeit not economically. If you like east coast poo poo with fiddles and whatnot, Joel Plaskett is pretty rad.

If you think welfare gets abused in Ontario and it is, except that in Quebec they literally operate thousands of fake businesses to avoid the requirement of actively seeking a job to qualify for welfare.

They've all already been mentioned, but gently caress you for not immediately thinking of the Big Three when discussing Canadian music, the Big Three being: Neil Young Joni Mitchell Leonard Cohen Those three songwriters alone make up for any other missteps in the entire history of Canadian music.

Then they released a crazy good album that nobody bought, and broke up for a decade. Then Ian Thornley hung out with one of the guys from Big Wreck again, wrote some material with him, and recorded it all with that dude, and the guys from Thornley. Also a really good album. They just recently released a new album, so Big Wreck is still a thing. I Mother Earth had two amazing albums, a pretty good one, a mediocre one, and they released a pretty cool single a couple of years ago. Everyone's still waiting to see if that becomes an album. Jag Tanna is still my favorite guitarist, and I've gone through 3 copies of Scenery & Fish since I was a teenager. GBS hates metal, because it means not taking yourself seriously, and having fun, but The Sword are awesome. If you like late 70s metal, and stuff like Mastodon, you should know about them already. Eagerly awaiting the "LOL if you're an adult who still listens to metal" thread that 4chan's already been having weekly for years. But how is that different from anything on GBS now? I'm a known unabashed Matt Good fanboy, so I'll leave it at that.

The Tragically Hip have been my favorite band for a long-rear end time, but they haven't put out an album that's better than just okay in over a decade and Gord Downie is starting to get tired of doing the Gord Downie thing on stage. Canada gave us Neil Young though, and I'm pretty sure On the Beach and Everybody Knows This is Nowhere wipe away a great many of their sins.
