Ivan's Draft Spreadsheet
toadee's magical script
toadee's year by year player list

Agggggh all my players have gone across the ocean! It's 1953!

It's been a while but the NL finally took home another World Series as PMP's St Louis squad took down the defending champs. Then we took way too long to get keepers in and I went on vacation but hey we're back now!

What is this thing?
This is season eight of a progressive league that started with the 1946 season. For those of you that aren't math majors that means we're now playing with 1953 stats in the What If Sports engine. If you don't know what that is there's more information in threads here and here.

What's a progressive league?
A 1946 progressive means we're drafting our franchise using only players that were eligible in 1946. As we finish each season our players will progress to the next season in their career and we will fill holes with new rookies. So your 1946 Ted Williams will be '47 Williams in season 2, '48 Williams in season 3, etc.

Who is eligible to join?
Anyone! However, we are currently full. If you're interested in joining for a future season then let me know by posting here or PMing me. But keep in mind that progressive leagues have a little higher difficulty curve than an open league or AV's goon league.

The Rules!
DH: What do you think this is, 1973?
Clones: Science has not progressed this far yet
Trades: YES
Injuries: YES
Salary Cap: NONE
Reserves: Only for ineligible players
AAA: YES. 6/4 Below Average
Teams: 16. 8 NL and 8 AL with two divisions in each league

Draft Order!
Draft order is simply in reverse order of winning percentage from last season, except for the first round. The first six picks in the first round will be determined by lottery and the last four picks in the first round were determined by playoff success.

"World Champions. WORLD FUCKING CHAMPIONS." - Chase Utley, October 31, 2008; Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA
I'll advertise this now, while I'm thinking about it: if anyone needs a 1B to plug in and not touch for the entire season, I have this here Steve Bilko who's contributing to my having way too many PA. After this season he's primarily a bench hitter in '54, '58, and '60-'62. I'm not looking for much, just someone/something that can pitch, really.

Rest assured that I will remind y'all of his availability frequently until the season starts, and probably beyond that if I can't get anyone to give in. Tweet or PM or HBD TC me or stand outside my house with a giant picture of someone you'd give up for him and I'll assess your offer forthright (that means within a fortnight) (that's a badass sleepover with pillow forts and poo poo)

Hello friends! As many of you surely know, this team's contention date is still years out. However there are a nice vat of interesting players still good in the next year or two that you may be interested! here is a sampler of those i'd be inclined to part with.

Johnny Groth

Jim Greengrass
Matt Batts

Pitcher WAR should now be fixed in the available players page. Let me know if anything is amiss, I took time from actual work time (thank you long db queries) to fix it so debugging was basically 'eh, them be numbers'.

yes Matt Batts is good and cool and you should all trade for him

Also I now own the 1953 AL and NL leaders in losses in Byrd and Murry Dickson. In related news, I would really like to trade Dickson's 1136 IP from '53-'59, you know where to find me if you like bad pitching

I know but I was in this league when it started for one season and drafted Spahn, so I was asking if he was traded while I was gone or did I get my same team back.

This draft may not have many exciting players, but there are exciting changes happening in the league! I've edited the OP to reflect that the BSN franchise is now MLN. They will play at County Stadium in Milwaukee.

Also say goodbye to Shibe Park, because both Philadelphia teams are moving to Connie Mack Stadium starting this season. But the AL version won't be there for long...
