Does anyone else here do standup comedy? How is your local scene? I'm just on the edge of Kansas City and it's been blowing up these past couple of years- out in my town alone we went from a monthly open mic in 2010 to 3-4 weekly shows/mics, and it's been awesome. if you don't do standup it is fun and you should try it unless you have a sense of shame and want to get laid

improv is great because when it's on tv they edit out the hours of skits that fell flat so people think they can do it no problem then have a meltdown 20 mins in to the act

I knew a lad who toured Canada doing stand up for spending money. He wasn't funny, but he had a weird accent and looked like Boris Johnson so I think he cruised on that.

actually rather than doing standup comedy i do standup horror i walk onto the stage in full camo with a black duffel bag full of random metal objects and just tell the worst jokes imaginable getting more and more angry and strained as the audience refuses to laugh until at the end i'm just screaming and spitting and ranting at the audience then i stalk off the stage muttering, my duffel bag clanking, and head into the restroom and then sneak out through the window and leave

Lawrence- so like barely in KC but I did grow up in Olathe They do a pretty good open mic on Thursdays at the Uptown Arts Bar (but not this week b/c of Fringe), and there are Saturday (Conroy's) and Sunday (Gaslight) night mics here in Lawrence

amatuer standup is like the most depressing loving thing ive ever seen there are so few people that are inherently funny and truly want to share funny stuff with a crowd, and then they get famous, and develop tired acts and repeat them over and over and over and over basically if you just a funny person dont do stand up ever
