If only she was more like Chirico (In SRW Z that guy is all crits all the time. Doing as much damage as the best supers a size S mech? Yes please).

BTW, OP: Howcome you keep showing screencaps of the event videos and not the actual videos themselves? :( And I think it'd help clarify things a bit if the keywords that keep showing up got spotlighted like in the Z LP.

Mostly because the videos in question are all just a couple seconds long. The only one that goes on for anything like a decent length of time is the video of the Hiryu Kai from Mission 5. (It's really weird, because the things you'd think would really deserve a video - spoiler and even more spoiler - don't get them, and just get barely-noticeable in-game cutscenes.)

If there's demand for it I'll run through a bunch of the videos in Gallery Mode and post them as a single update.

I should do a glossary update for the keywords, although it's mostly things that get covered in the narration at some point or another. It's not nearly as bad as the Atlus version, which had abbreviations and acronyms out the wazoo to compensate for space issues. Is it possible to insert a post at the beginning, or do I just have to make a normal post and link to it in the OP?

I actually have some information on this for you! I happened to notice something weird when playing this game myself recently: the SRX Gespensts have an A-rank in water, as well as the Underwater movement type. In return, the ATX Gespensts have an A-rank in the air, which you might think is useless until you hear that in OGs (I'm not sure about other SRWs, but I know it's this way in OGs) the game uses the enemy terrain type when calculating hit% for melee attacks, so the ATX Gespensts are that much better at Jet Magnum-ing all the planes and Lions they fight.

Thanks! I was actually just looking at the little land/air/sea/space symbols on the mech status screen, so this is good info to have. OG1 doesn't really do anything to enforce smart play (as I'm going to amply demonstrate), but the sequel is... another story.

Actually OG1 is fairly simple about it. A lot of members of the EFA defected when Bian gave his speech. Killer Whales naturally came with that. On top of that he's had since Meteor-3 crashed to be preparing for this invasion, biding his time, mass producing the easy to make Lion series and anything else he would need.

Honestly considering just what we've seen so far of the EFA, it's surprising that anyone, including our heroes, didn't defect to the DC side. Granted the DC also threw people like Tenzan at us which certainly suggests they're somehow worse, but most of the EFA forces didn't see that.

How does Bullet have more kills than Excellen? :psyduck:

Before continuing I pass out a couple of items I picked up on the previous mission. The Servomotor gives a negligible boost to a unit's dodging ability (a 5% bonus), while the Apogee Motor does the same while also extending the unit's movement range by 1. Since Katina was absolutely crawling on the previous mission, I give her Gespenst the Apogee Motor and then stick the servo on the Weissritter.

I then slap the repair unit on Excellen's old Gespenst. And then I get distracted by domestic violence next door and neglect to actually make Russell its pilot. :downsbravo:

Tasuku's been wheedling at Marion to let him be a pilot, but with no success to speak of. Excellen comes in to check on the status of her Gespenst (currently being prepped for Russell's use), but it turns out that Tasuku isn't interested in that; when Marion tells him to come back once he's passed the Personal Troooper aptitude test, he says that he's not talking about some lousy PT, silencing her at once. Excellen says that he's liable to get strapped to the Alteisen's heat horn if he keeps it up. He appeals to her for support, but she says they have no shortage of pilots - it's hot studs that the team could use more of. In that case, Tasuku says he's her man, but she thinks he has the heat horn in his future, one way or the other.

Master Rishu comes by to say that if he has free time, he should be helping out; all it takes is the threat of a thousand sword strokes to have Tasuku swearing that he'll be delighted to help with whatever Rishu requires. With Tasuku safely out of the way, Marion explains that he has his eye on the Giganscudo - the so-called "Guardian of Earth," and trigger of the Hope Incident which claimed countless lives. Excellen's heard of the robot and its reputation, but didn't expect it to be still be kept aboard the Hiryu Kai. As old as it is, even the latest developments on the Tesla Drive won't be enough to bring it operational. Marion regards this relic only as a secret weapon, to be brought out in times of direst need to put an end to conflict.

At the colonial military headquarters in Elpis Colony, Lily Junkers announces that Major Julia Heinkel of the Treue Squadron has arrived. The supreme commander Maier Branstein commends her on her capture of Columna Station, securing superiority for both themselves and the Divine Crusaders, but he fears that her squadron is being put at unnecessary risk through these maneuvers. Julia, however, refuses her commander's consideration - all Treue members swore to lay down their lives for his sake if need be, and such allowances will only make them weaker in the end. Maier seems to accept this, and says that he has new orders for them; descend to Earth to reinforce the Divine Crusaders, receive Dr. Zoldark's latest armored module, and return.

In his offices, Maier and Lily discuss the Treue squadron's remarkable performance - the unit's ranks were filled with the most loyal of the colonies' female pilots. They, like the Last Battalion, will show that human lives are the greatest of weapons. Ultimately, Maier views both Julia and his son Elzam in the same light - as tools with their role to play in the conflict ahead. Lily falls silent as this, and Maier asks if she thinks him heartless. She denies this, fully aware that he carries the fate of all the colonies on his shoulders, a burden that President Brian Midcrid is far too soft to bear. Only Maier has the fortitude to ensure their freedom. Maier says that they all must harden their hearts, if they are to survive the tribulation to come...

Excellen asks Kyosuke if he's heard the news that the DCs are receiving reinforcements - at this rate the Far East Base is sure to fall. As for the base here in America... Kyosuke expects there to be intense fighting here before long as well. She asks if he'll protect her, to which he replies that she can protect herself. Excellen grumbles about his cold attitude, but thinks to herself that he's protected her once already - even if he doesn't remember it.

Meanwhile, Jonathan has finished the major adjustments to the Grungust, but will have to take care of the fine-tuning en route. Turns out he's heading across the Pacific to deliver the Grungust to the SRX team - a very dangerous journey, in light of the recent news. Since the R-series is still under development, he's hoping that Rob's team will be able to make good use of the gift he's bringing them. Marion can't believe he's sending spices to the enemy. After correcting her that it's salt, not spices, Jonathan says that she really ought to tone her rivalry with Kirk down a bit; she's unmoved, saying that he's just getting what he deserves for letting himself be blinded by EOT.

:eng101:The bit about salt/spices here is a reference to the Sengoku era, when a number of lords tried to starve Takeda Shingen's forces by blocking the traffic in salt to his provinces. Shingen's longtime rival Uesugi Kenshin found this dishonorable; believing that war should be settled on the battlefield ("with swords and spears, not with rice and salt"), he secretly had salt delivered to his enemy. It's better to have an enemy like Kenshin than a friend (and wife) like Marion, I guess.

In any case, Jonathan continues, the ATX team has no shortage of capable units - the Alt, the Weiss, the Type-0, the Giganscudo... this last brings Marion up short; the revelation that the Giganscudo is no longer sealed away, and that he's managed to get it moving again with a Tesla Drive, doesn't sit well with her. Jonathan finds her choice of words interesting, given the machine's history. While he understands her feelings, as a former resident of the colony, he (and Rishu) both believe that this is no time to be standing on principle. In order to defeat the DCs, any weapon, no matter how outdated, needs to be brought into play. In any case, he's off - given that Irm's at the Far East Base, this might give him a chance to pick up on his fatherly duties as well.

Mission 7: The Northern Land Burns

Jonathan apologizes for making the crew spend its time escorting him away from the base, but Sean says it's the least they can do after he got the Gigan working again. With Langley undersupplied as it is, Dr. Kazahara's transport and its cargo make for quite the delicious morsel for an enemy attack (he begs Sean not to describe him like that). They have to be vigilant - now that the colonial forces have brought down the satellite network, their detection is limited only to ground-based radar.

"We're perfectly unprepared, in other words?" Excellen quips. Her phrasing is more apt than she thinks; after they shot down the MAPWs during the previous attack on the base, they tipped their hand to Tempest Hawker's DC detachment, who will no doubt be trying a different tactic next time to compensate.

Jonathan says he doesn't like the look of things, and Kyosuke agrees... and a moment later, Eun confirms their fears.

Leona Garstein asks Julia if it's all right for them to be taking the time to be here; Julia knows that this is where the Hiryu Kai and ATX team have been stationed, and wants a chance to see their power for herself. Hearing that this situation is "the same as the Hagane," Leona withdraws her objection immediately.

Jonathan ignores Kyosuke's command to return to the hangar; if the enemies are preoccupied with attacking the base itself, this may be the best chance for him to slip through the net. Hearing this, Lefina orders the ATX team to sortie, further drawing the attackers' attention.

Sanger takes one look at the enemy units' markings and tells the group that these aren't Divine Crusaders, but colonial military - as if we didn't have enough enemies here on the Earth already, Katina says. Julia orders her troops to divide up: engage the enemies and capture that transport's cargo intact! Evidently they were looking for the Grungust after all.

"Go get 'em, Professor!"
"Aren't you supposed to be covering me!?"
"Oh, you just have to believe in yourself."

Sanger tells the group to get to it, but to remember the possibility of reinforcements; don't lose sight of protecting the base!

Mission objectives involve getting the Tausendfussler safely off the map or destroying all the enemies, whichever comes first. To get the battle mastery we have to take out both Leona and Julia, with an extra note that Julia will withdraw if her health falls below 30% (thus costing us the mastery).

We're fighting on the same map as last time, but that is a lot of Lions to be dealing with. The darker-blue Lion is Leona's Lion Type-F, which has a few hundred HP more than the basic model but is otherwise unremarkable. Also, despite what Sanger said, Jonathan is going to charge straight into the enemies and we can't really afford to hang back.

I haven't been using Sanger much, but we need a lot of things dead in a very short time, and he's actually the only one who can reliably do that at this point. He gets to take point, right in front of Julia.

One down. And no, they weren't kidding about all the Treue pilots being women.

Kyosuke can't quite get close enough to be in Revolver Stake range of everybody I want him to hit, so I have him take up position next to Sanger.

Unusually, he doesn't crit for the kill.

Russell brings up the rear and finishes it off. With his jet.

I bring everybody else forward as well; Excellen and Bullet soften up a couple more targets.

Turn 1, enemy phase. Julia leads off.

Kyosuke puts up a good showing against her despite not being focused.

Then Leona follows up from out of range.

During this turn, Sanger squishes everyone else on his side of the battlefield. Did I seriously have him at level 6 this whole time? Geez.

And then the Tausendfussler finishes off one of the guys girls I'd softened up last turn! :confuoot: In my effort to keep Kyosuke from getting counterattacked from out of range, I ended up parking both him and Jonathan at the same range from the right-side enemies, making it a bit of a tossup as to which they would go after. Most of them are still out of range (thankfully), and only two ended up going after the transport.

...But that's still enough to leave the transport looking like this. Let's not have a repeat of this on the next turn. Once the enemies have made their move, Jonathan heads a bit closer to the edge of the map.

Which leads us to the first pitfall of this mission, which is that it's very easy to miss the battle mastery if you're not thinking. Usually your instinct is to kill everything you can before hitting the mastery, for maximum cash/experience/kills. However, you have a lot of enemies to kill, still some questionable hardware to do it with (outside of Sanger/Kyosuke/Excellen), and a hard time limit: if he's not shot down first, Jonathan will make his escape at the end of the second turn, at which point the entire Treue squadron pulls out, Leona and Julia included. Enemies do move before NPCs, but you're prevented from letting the enemies destroy themselves on their turn by the fact that Julia moves first, and taking her out will also trigger the Treue withdrawal. Between that and another event that'll be coming up shortly, this is one case where you'll need to let some enemies go in the name of getting a battle mastery.

So, turn 2. Leona and Julia both have to go this turn, so I want to pick off a couple of the Lions at the same time if it's at all possible. Bullet kills one, while the Hiryu and Russell bring down another.

Kyosuke gives Leona a stake to the face. I'm a little disappointed by how little she does here, but she'll have more to do later.

Katina tries to jet-magnum another enemy to death, but it doesn't work out so well for her. :cmon:

Then Excellen finishes Leona off. She makes use of her Hit & Away ability to head back towards the base afterward, because as we all know, she is the most responsible and careful member of the team and this is perfectly in character
for her.

Then Sanger gives Julia a Zankanto to the face, which is more than enough to finish her off, even with ~5000 health remaining. Oh, and he's level 9 now. Battle mastery get! :toot:

Deciding that she's had a good look at the ATX team's capabilities, Julia orders the general retreat. Lefina tells Dr. Kazahara to take advantage of this opportunity to escape, and he agrees, promising to ask her out to dinner later in thanks. Poor Lefina. Jonathan leaves, with Marion wishing the Grungust (but not him) a safe journey.

And then even more enemies arrive, all along another edge of the map. The newcomers' leader, Thomas Platt, says that only a fool attacks from the front; his business style is to learn what he can in advance, then use what he can for an advantage.

This isn't looking good; Langley doesn't have the manpower to resist a sustained assault. Tasuku again says they should let him go out and help, Excellen wishes they had around 100 more machines, and Sanger just yells at them that this is what they get, so they'd better get used to the idea!

Thomas thinks he arrived at just the right time, and the third time will be the charm; Sanger orders them to keep the enemies out of the base at all costs, even if it means barricading the way with their tattered bodies. Lefina gives the Hiryu crew a slightly gentler version of the same order.

New mission objectives - take out Thomas, keep everybody out of the base. All my guys have already moved, so I don't have any option but to end the turn.

...

oh gently caress me they're already almost in the base. This could get ugly. The most immediate threats are those jets; the Landlions are fast, but only one of them can actually reach the target zone this turn. This is a pretty mean trick for the game to pull on you, since you had to rush forward to get the battle mastery, but it's not completely out of the blue - Sanger did warn us to keep an eye on the base back at the beginning, after all.

Sanger and Kyosuke each move as far as they can and take out a jet apiece.

Excellen is the only one who can keep this Landlion out of the base, so she moves forward and kills what she can, leaving us with one jet to worry about.

Only one other guy can reach the target. Russell, don't fail us now...

Well, poo poo. Nothing for it; at least I can show you guys what the Game Over screen looks li---

:psyduck:

For whatever reason, the jets prioritize attacking over moving. I have no idea why, but it saved my rear end here, so I'm not going to complain even though by all rights I should've failed the mission right there.

The Landlions, on the other hand, prioritize movement, so I'll start out the next turn with a bunch of crab-bots right up in my face.

I'm so relieved not to be dead that I'm using a new and completely unnecessary attack to kill this jet.

Beauty.

Turn 4. I now have plenty of people in proper position for killing things, so the three Landlions don't last long at all; I feed a couple kills to Bullet and Katina.

I have Excellen move out to pick at the Lions. Her dodge rate really leaves something to be desired...

Enemy phase, the Lions ignore Excellen and move towards the base. Thomas moves up as well, and... ouch.

At least she gets a little payback, but I don't want to take another one of those if I can help it.

Turn 5... well, there's really not a whole lot to say about this turn. The Lions are significantly less dangerous than anything else we've faced this mission, so the group just sort of frolics around and rakes in a few more kills (while keeping an eye on the base). A few highlights...

Excellen kills one and uses Hit & Away to get back to the relative safety of the group. Lefina uses her Trust spirit to boost her health again.

Kyosuke rides out to kill one of the guys in back, although they'll be ignoring him next turn.

Lefina and Katina (equipped with Excellen's old shotgun) team up to get Katina a double-kill, raising her to level 7.

Thomas rushes the base, targets Bullet, and... oh dear. Last mission, when I was fighting Tempest, I mentioned that he wasn't using a particularly nasty attack that the Guarlion has. Thomas has no such reservations, and so we get to see the Sonic Breaker.

If that had connected, it might have taken Bullet out in one hit. It definitely would've finished Excellen. Guarlion-flying bosses can use the Sonic Breaker once they have a little morale. It has a huge range, is generally pretty accurate, does enough damage to one-shot some of your guys if you're unlucky, and has a very low energy cost.

Also, Bullet hit him with some cluster missiles, but Thomas is too chill to care much.

Turn 6 is just clean-up, so I'll take this opportunity to show off the Alt's claymores.

They do good damage, but their range is tiny and they can't be used after moving; Kyosuke had plenty of SP left, so casting Assail at this point in the mission wasn't a problem.

And now it's just Thomas, so I have Katina Valor/Strike up and take him out.

:eng101: Tomas uses token English phrases in a lot of his quotes. His line after being shot down here, "Hahaha! See you again!" is a possible nod to Remy Shimada from Goshogun, who would say this (minus the laughter) whenever the team left an area.

Also, initially I didn't use Strike and Katina whiffed on the attack, leading to a support from Excellen. "That was Lt. j.g. Katina. And now, for the tsukkomi's follow-up!" This being a fairly well-known reference to a style of comedy duo, where one member (the tsukkomi) gives the straight reactions to whatever idiocy the other member (the boke) happens to throw out. Given Excellen's assessment of which one of them fits into each role... :iceburn:

Unfortunately Excellen didn't finish Thomas off, and I wanted Katina to get the experience, so I reloaded and used Strike.

"Heh. Attack the base and they all come running. drat, I'm good... and now it's checkmate!"
"What...?"
"Well, I was just one step ahead of you. See you again!"

Katina levels up...

...and then it turns out the enemy had one more card up their sleeve. Bullet's just a bit freaked out by this, and Sanger has to yell at him (again) not to lose his nerve. Excellen suggests that they hold the line while she flies off to ask the Far East base for help; Kyosuke promises to shoot her down if she moves an inch.

With no hope of defense or escape(oh come on, we can take these guys without any problem), Sanger orders the group to retreat while he holds the enemy at bay. Katina wants to know where the hell they're going to retreat to if their home base has been taken, but he doesn't care - anywhere, just so long as they're able to escape and fight another day.

"That goes for you as well, Major." Greg countermands Sanger's order; he's going to activate the base's HOS jammers, temporarily blinding the enemy. There's no other option at this point - another MAPW attack will be forthcoming shortly, he's sure, and they're out of time and resources. Incredulous, Sanger asks if he's telling them only to worry about their own lives, and Greg says that's exactly what he's telling them; the ATX team and the Hiryu Kai must survive at any cost. They must abandon the base and head to the Manhattan Crater, where the remnants of the Federation military are regrouping for a counterattack.

”Commander!"
"That's an order, Major Zonvolt!"
”Gh...!"
"If you are lost here, you leave your team without its leader. Think before you act!"

Greg only gets has two facial expressions, so I'd better use this one while I still have the chance.

Greg announces that he's going to activate the jammers now, leaving no more room for discussion. Sanger still hesitates, and Kyosuke stuns everybody by superseding him and issuing the retreat order himself - and if Sanger won't come, he'll pull him out of his cockpit and drag him if that's what it takes. There are more important battles for the team to wager their lives on... Rishu echoes this sentiment; Sanger has been a fine student, but a key part of the samurai code is knowing when to lay down one's life, and when not to.

"All units, return... The Hiryu Kai is withdrawing."
"...A wise decision, Captain."

Bullet rages helplessly, and Kyosuke tells him not to do so here - remember the anger he's feeling now, because his chance to put it to use will come later.

Everyone leaves. Greg thinks that his duty is done. Now it's up to Laker - and General Norman. He orders the jammers activated and all anti-aircraft ordnance deployed, in order to buy as much time for the retreat as possible; that done, he commands all base personnel to evacuate. Marion says that if they should meet again, she'll be sure to have more upgrades ready for the Mk. III, the Mk.II Custom... and the Giganscudo.

:patriot:

At DC headquarters on Aidoneus Island, Julia informs Elzam of the Hiryu's escape. This retreat is unlike Sanger, and Elzam wonders who convinced his friend to make that decision. Langley was a cornerstone of the Earth defense project, and it's regrettable that so many talented individuals had to be lost. Julia simply says that if any refuse to obey the will of the Divine Crusaders, they must be crushed.

This amuses Elzam; like his brother Raidiese, she hasn't grasped the true nature of this conflict yet. Julia raises the possibility that they'll be fighting each other soon enough, but Elzam says not to let it concern her - his brother has renounced the Branstein family, and he doubts there's anything he could say to convince him now. As for the Hiryu, it's time to see what they're capable of... and what it will take to make a certain someone see the light.

Next time: Something goes right for a change.

Also, it's probably not big enough to justify more than a footnote in Masaki's update later, so I'll just add a note about Thomas here...

Most of the DC and colonial officers are new as of OG1, but Thomas made his debut in the second half of the SNES Lord of Elemental game back in 1996, making him one of the older Banpresto Originals. That actually takes place later in the timeline, warped as it is, than what we're seeing now, so this is an expanded prequel of sorts to his later appearances.

Thomas appears again? THOMAS APPEARED BEFORE?!

I had no idea, I remembered the dude, I remembered him when I forgot Temptest (who?) existed whenever he's not directly on screen, and I never knew this.

Thomas is one of the most competent low-key original antagonists in SRW, I was disappointed when he just apparently vanished into the ether of OG.

But it turns out he was a Masoukishin character all along and he gets to butt heads with the Langran folks. :unsmith:

We joked about how forgettable Tempest was/is, but I honestly don't remember Thomas at all :psyduck:

Was he in the GBA version, or am I just going insane?

In the future, Germany will just exile all the militaristic folks into space.

And yeah, Thomas was in the the GBA version. He was pretty forgettable, though. I think he bows out of the story by just going "whelp, not going to hang around here anymore!" and bailing. After that presumably he ends up in La Gias.

Excuse me, do you know where Saiyans hang out?
More results of messing around: apparently shields are a thing in this game, for the ~3 OG units that actually have them. They're activated by using the Defense command and they otherwise do nothing, like in G-Generation, or SRW Z if the pilot doesn't have the Blocking skill.

I know nothing beyond what has been mentioned in the thread, but I hope at least while he's around Bullet continues to outperform the expectations the game and reality have set for him. If only because characters performing well out of SPITE has been the cause of some of my better luck in other games.

See, thing is, so far he has a mech that works with his skillset. That will not be the case for much longer.

If someone says it one more time I'm having Florina show up as a corpse. I'm not even kidding, I was pissed off with people doing that shit back in 2010, and I'm not dealing with it now in 2016.

Eh, might as well come out and say it. Bullet is a punchy kind of guy, high melee stat because he's a wannabe Sanger. He's about to get a mecha that's all guns all the time and wont get a mecha that actually FITS HIM until well into OG2. Stack up that on him just not being a good character, multiply that by future events and me trying to spite the game. And you got a recipe for a ponce.

Actually he really doesn't, because the Type-TT has no notable melee attacks. The guns and T-Link Ripper are all ranged.

Really I should've stuck him in Excellen's old blue Gespenst, but then I wouldn't have anything to forget to put Russell in.

OG has a lot of characters in mechs that don't really suit them. It's either a hint to move them around or a hint to make use of the equipment system.

This is from a few pages back, but I'm just catching up now. Someone asked why the hell Excellen gets support defend, and that there are a lot of characters in OG1/OGs that have support defend for seemingly no reason. Here's why!

In the GBA version of OG1, there was no division between Support Attack and Support Defend; everyone just had Support, which let you, basically, do both; you could support attack on the player turn, and then defend on the enemy turn, and it only took up one skill slot. OG2 refined this a bit to be in line with where the series as a whole went, which was splitting it into two different skills, and at that point a lot of characters had a skill load out adjustment to take this into account (some kept both, some lost Defend, and some lost Attack).

When OGs came out, they kept the split skill, but they also tried to keep as close, mechanically, to how characters appeared in the GBA version, which means that you get weird stuff like, well, Excellen having support defend.

I have played the GBA and PS2 versions of this game probably more than any other game and know way too much about them :( I am a Ryusei partisan, since I played his route first and like that crew/development more than Kyosuke's team (Tetsuya is, inexplicably, one of my favorites, as well as another character we have yet to meet), to the point where I don't use Kyosuke/Excellen at all come OG2, but as others have said the beauty of this series is that you can use whoever you want to and make it work.

To be fair, That also usually means moving characters out of mechs that suit them. usually it's better to just not use the troublemaker, or gut through as best you can. Like I see so many people suggesting swapping characters into the Giganscudo and to me it's "I like Tasuku in it." (I got no idea if this is a spoiler since we know we're getting it and he wants it.) And so many other pilots seem to 'want' it and at that point it's like "gently caress em." and Bullet is one of those pilots.

Of course OG1 has a lot of pilots more suited for Supers which are very rare in this game.

I find that it's more OG1 than anything. I switched no one in OG2 and only like two in OGG, but OG1 has a lot of people that really want other units than their own. Bullet is one of them, definitely. So are Katina and Russel, and Garnet and debatably Latooni, and a lot of others we'll meet sooner or later.

After recently picking up Dark Prison I was pleasantly surprised to see Thomas is still alive and kicking complete with his gratuitous english. Dude is pretty much OG version of Yazan already and I hope he never bites it.

He isn't really, because Yazan was more... I'm going to violate you. Thomas just thinks of himself as a smart tactician, and to be fair, he's not an idiot so that makes him better than a LOT. And recognizes when his superiors have gone bumfuck crazy. Though I have to ask, does he join as an ally or is he an enemy?

As far as I am in OG:DP, he fights you once as an enemy. He tries to negotiate, but it falls flat.

I was going to get around to this at some point (most likely whenever I get some pilot upgrades for the first time), but since you beat me to it I'll just edit your writeup in to the post for that mission.

I like scrambling the pilots and their mechs just for fun sometimes, it makes things interesting however terribly inefficient.

Also The Giganscudo is coming up. I love it, it's a space plane with legs, because they took a Giganspada(they come up later, much later) and gave it arms and legs. Like a Lion but without the generic terribleness.

I once did an entire run of putting people in mechs that didn't suit them. I switched Kyosuke and Excellen, tossed Rai in the Giganscudo, and made a bunch of other weird decisions I can't remember right now.

It was actually super fun, though pretty obviously pilots did better when I only had to change one stat (defense vs dodge, ranged vs melee) than both. I really wish you could do poo poo like that more often in SRW.

Katina in the Alteisen, Russel in the Weissriter. This is the true canon in my soul.

Does this mission introduce the Treue BGM, or does that not come up until later? I'm a big fan of the song, even though I found out a few weeks ago that they remixed it and gave it words for some godawful reason.
