Any chance you'll get to fly a P-38 with half the wing blown off and one engine out before this LP is up?

Well, I could theoretically keep playing this game for a long time by just starting up a new campaign in the thread. The P-38 might not be able to handle half a wing off though.

I don't know if it's been talked about yet, but one of the people in charge of this game was a goon. About 10 years back he posted a request in the games subforum asking people for help since voice actors didn't get hired or something, and he needed people to fill the roles. So I have about 120 lines in the game as a pilot saying things like "he's on your 6!" and other phrases. I've never played the game though so I don't know if I got cut in the final product, but my name is mentioned under the special thanks section.

It was kind of a cool experience.

That's awesome! There's still a need for voice actors judging by some posts in the modding community (Canadian speech pack? Yes please!) even if they serve very little actual use. I don't usually keep the voices on during recording because they are incredibly distracting and, at times, annoying but depending on what language you did there's a chance you're still in.

I just checked my dates here and I didn't realize that Il-2 1946 was different from Il-2 (which is what I did the voicework in), so I had nothing to do with this game. Still, interesting bit of forums history there. And kind of odd how things can just fall into your lap sometimes.

Well, Il-2 1946 is technically an expansion to Il-2 Sturmovik. The full name is just Il-2 Sturmovik 1946, so you were probably doing voices for the original release of the game which is still cool and they never really updated many of the voices.

Did you do your voices in english, because the american campaigns have some weird phrases in them at times. Like one of the tower operators says something like "Hello little friends!" which might have been a thing they said a lot in the 40s? But to me it just sounds weird.

But if it was a goon who said that it would make a whole lot more sense

I love the ones that aren't half hearted though because they are usually preceded by the pilot calling out his call sign in a normal voice. It ends up sounding like "Hey guys this is number 5 here, just letting you know... AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!"

Gotta admit, that's good for a chuckle.

The "hello little friends" is a greeting from a bomber pilot to escort fighters. It apparently originates from a Jack Benny radio program for young listeners (that started in 1931) where he would greet his young audience with "Hello little friends, hello."

I have a feeling that was also said in either "Memphis Belle" or "12 O'clock High", anyone able to confirm?

This would be what I did. I did the voices in English and had both pilot lines telling where I was in the sky and identifying myself, as well as "I'M DYING" lines. Both sections were recorded separately and for the final game they probably just spliced them together, so you'd get totally disjointed "This is Alpha 1" or whatever followed by "I'm GOING DOWNNNN!!"

So, barring any mass votes for the Bf-109 or MC.200, it looks like the next plane for 153 Squadriglia will be the Macchi MC.202 "Folgore".

I've got a bunch of showcase videos I have to make to show off the planes we haven't chosen or won't have to chance to fly (Bombers, etc.)

Also, mission 10 video is on its way. Busy week and revitalizing my addiction for Civ 5 has taken up editing/recording time.

E: Not entirely sure what I'll do to show off fighters properly, but I'll figure something out.

Tobruk to Sicily: Mission 10

Siege of Tobruk: 27 April 1941

"I don't like this one bit, and neither does anyone else. We all know those Storks are sitting ducks in the sky and even Gladiators would make mince meat out of them. They are determined to hit their targets, however. I just wish they knew what they are going up against..." -Lorenzo Moretti

We've got an escort mission, helping out slow Br.20's to their destination. I had no confidence in the AI's ability to protect those bombers all the way. After the mission, finding out the Allies now have mkII's, its getting more and more apparent that we've lost the advantage our Re.2000's had over their fighters. It was bound to happen, so I can't say it was entirely unexpected.

:siren:Mission Video!:siren:

ADHD kicked in and I didn't get any debrief screens (Besides, it would've been a collection of like 20 images). So instead, I decided we should all congratulate our FIRST ACE! :bravo:

Argle's also bound to get another medal next mission.

I don't rule out flak though because he was extremely close to an airfield (AI does weird stuff when they have a dead engine), but an explosion from a fuel tank is also very likely.

Most of the pilots are getting better, and I'm also making sure to keep you all at a relatively higher skill rate. It's more fun that way and more challenging.

Yeah, just remember, the Bf-110 is a Zerstörer (Destroyer) not a "fighter", and it will destroy anything that gets in front of its many guns. The problem is it has a hard time getting those nimble little fighters in front of its guns.

Bombers, other slow moving aircraft, and ground targets though? Dead ducks.

Well, they called them destroyers because they were heavy fighters, they just weren't specifically called heavy fighters. And they were called Zerstorers before they were mainly used for ground attack missions. That being said however, even in a fighter, you NEVER want to get shot by a 110 as you won't live long to tell the tale if the pilot is anything but a rookie.

Yeah, I've loved the Bf-110 since the days of playing B-17 on DOS. Its a beautiful looking plane. I think most twin-engine heavy fighters are, but sadly they just didn't work out too well except as ground attack planes and night fighters.

I mean, to kid Galga, in B-17 DOS the 109 and 190s were just normal blocky looking planes, but just look at these awesome things!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention but I recognized thr Squadron code of some of those Hurricanes. The "GA" hurricanes in the first half are from the 112th RAF squadron, who actually did fight in the African Front. Since its 1941 they'll be upgrading to P-40s soon, a plane which they decorated with Shark Mouths, being one of the first squadrons to ever do so and helping establish the shark mouth as fighter decoration in popular culture.

That picture I posted earlier was of some 112th P-40s.
