Hello, yes welcome to the Capital One Cup Thread for the 2014/15 season. How exciting.

What is the Capital One Cup/Football League Cup?

They are one and the same. The Football League Cup is the third of the major domestic English trophies along with the Premier League and the FA Cup. In all honesty for the last 15 years it's been treating as joke by the bigger English teams, but most of the time one of them end up winning it anyway.

Last season saw Manchester City beat some mackam binmen in the final at Wembley.

So why should I care about it?

Well if you are a top four supporting shitlord plastic you probably won't until you flick over onto Sky one Sunday in April and find your boys taking the field at Wembley. For the rest of us REAL FANS it represents one of the few slim chances for our clubs to attain glory during our lifetime. In the last ten years Swansea City, Birmingham City and the mighty Middlesbrough FC have managed to win it.

So when does it start?

Right now! The big clubs don't enter until the 3rd round, but for now the football league teams are contesting the first round of this historic tournament.

Here's the fixture list for the first round

Here's hoping we see something like this again

One entire match has been played so far, with Derby beating Carlisle 2-0. There are a couple more matches today which should be fun.

Spare a thought for Colchester who are travelling to Charlton having not won in the League Cup for four years, and are on a run of something like 7-8 games without a win in any cup competition.

Also I had completely missed that Wimbledon are playing the fake Dons again.

There's 32 games on and the BBC can't even be bothered to do their half-arsed Red Button Final Score because there's no Prem teams involved, shameful.

He loves to show his tattoos off does Matty Briggs.

Guess that means he'll be out for the match on Saturday, which means Patrick Roberts won't be able to take the piss for 90 minutes, and that's a shame.

It was actually 2011, but yeah, loose end tied up. To keep it relevant to this thread, that includes a recent league cup record of 0-3, 1-5 and now 0-4. Good stuff, cheers all.

lol United are now in this so early I had to bump the thread

Van Gaal has picked a hilarious side and somebody has the unenviable job of telling him MK Dons are actually full time.

I wish Smudge was still there, he knew a thing or two about horribly underpowered United cup line-ups.
