When performing a barrel roll, take the 1 straight template and place it flush, short-side against the ship template. The edge of the maneuver template may not extend beyond the edge of the ship template. Pick up the ship and place it on the other side of the maneuver template, keeping the ship template flush against the maneuver template. The edge of the maneuver template may still not extend beyond the edge of the ship template. You may not barrel roll into other ships or onto obstacles. You may barrel roll off the map.

There are no other restrictions on barrel rolling.

As an aside, because it's only in the FAQ, if you're barrel rolling a large-base ship, you need to use the other side of the 1-straight template.

Ah, that makes sense. My only large-base ship is a single IG-2000 (are the stand 'struts' always so hard to slide into those, or is it just mine? Seems impossible to get it fully in without destroying the ship in the process), but I'll definitely keep it in mind, for if/when I get more that barrel-roll

Every large ship comes with a sheet of instructions (and usually a mission). In each large ship instruction are the changes to the base rules for large ships, like barrel rolls, and needing 2 ion tokens to actually be ionized and have the forced move.

The barrel roll bit is only in the Outrider rules, since the other large ships can't barrel roll without Expert Handling, and who the hell takes Expert Handling?

Haven't tried Airen but if you actually run this I'm curious what kind of list you got built around him.

I use it on N'dru with pred and sometimes paired with the HWK dude who makes you a 0 to guarantee his 2 rerolls. I dont have a specific list for Airen at hand but Pbpancho uses it in his Z missile swarm list.

I like the twin laser cannon turret but I'm worried that the only ship actually worth using it on will be the K-Wing. If you place it on a Y-Wing, it will get doughnut-holed like mad unless you have an unhinged on there. Well, either that or you have another Y-Wing with autoblaster turret escorting it.

Plasma Torps look pretty good, especially on Drea Renthal. Having two torps for 2.5 points each when you use extra munitions is pretty nice and you are doing decent damage since you can refresh the target lock.

Even at 6 points for the turret, you can run 4 Y-Wings with the twin laser turret. As long as your ships are spread out a little, you should still have at least 2 ships able to target something that gets close.

If you are only running one or two y-wings, then your other ships ought to be able to deal with anyone who gets close.

For how much FFG is trying to make their organized play A Big Deal, they seem to be putting very little effort into things like choosing venues, or using software that actually works.

If you have an LGS ask them about their FFG account and see if they can order the store league/tournament kits. You should be willing to run them or even buy the kit and see if people want to play.

But we should be better than that, dammit.

So I joined an X-Wing escalation league that does organized matches every 2 weeks, and does this thing where it is restricted by Pilot Skill depending on the point value. Last time was no more than PS 5, this time is PS 6, and so on.

I'm locked in for Rebels for the league (because I never play them, and thought why not). Does anyone have any good ideas for a list that is at 65 points, no more than PS 6? I'm thinking Chewie with predator, Gunner, Title, and Dash with a Bandit. I have no idea why this is so hard for me right now....

Huzzah, my case arrived last night (and then my movement templates today, on Saturday morning)! :toot: Although most (if not all) of you probably aren't interested in seeing them, here are a couple of shoddy phone photos of the case:

Just thought I'd post them in case anyone has a better idea about how I should store things in there - mainly the stack of bagged-up cards in the bottom-right of the lower tray, as well as maybe the proxy mine in the bottom-left of the top tray.
(Also, what are those little hex '1 explosion' tokens for? Same with that 'S' token in the same compartment, next to the dice. Only just got the pack they were in recently, and there didn't seem to be a description)

They're scenario-specific tokens that come with larger expansions (e.g. Imperial Aces, IG-2000).

Nice layout. Looks pretty much like how I've got things organized. All my cards are in a binder so it's not much of a concern, plus my proximity mine token just floats around in whatever compartment I have available.

One build is partially reliant on having Palob in a HWK.

Kavil
Opportunist
Blaster Turret
R4 Agromech

Palob pulls tokens (or usually prevents them from showing up by just being in the area) so Opportunist can be used. The Agromech gives you a target lock that can be used on the attack. The downside is that it leaves the Y-Wing with its forward only green tiles. You can roll 5 target locked dice, but you are then very predictable on where you end up. And if Kavil gets blocked, it falls apart quickly.

You have to be very judicious with your use of Opportunist. I found out that using it gets you in to bad locations (asteroids or bumping), and sometimes you have to avoid it to make sure you can manuver and get a focus on the next turn.

You can also add opportunist, blaster turret, and Recon Specialist or Moldy Crow (or both) for similar shenanigans on Palob.

Kai Tave

Fallen Rib
Honestly I'd rather have Opportunist on Palob than Kavil. Like you point out, if Kavil takes stress it tanks his movement options if you're using the R4/Blaster setup since he doesn't get the swanky green 3's of an Unhinged Astromech, but HWKs move like poo poo anyway so slow-rolling Palob across the board is less of a problem since you'll probably be doing that anyway.

It's the Plano Double-Sided Tackle Organizer, recommended to me by someone in this very thread. Definitely a good case for X-Wing, particularly as the compartments are somewhat adjustable. (Not completely - only the smaller sides can be added/removed. You can see the slots for the sides in my photos, to get a better idea)

A friend of mine had Isoor's case for a while, but be cautioned it doesn't fit big ships very well. If you're a stupid rear end in a top hat like me and trying to buy one of everything, you might look at this Plano. There's also a nerd review in there about X-wing specifically. I just break my stuff up by faction - one tray is for templates and tokens, then Rebels, Imperials and Scum.

If Scum had a way to give out focus tokens Kavil would be amazing.

I haven't run that before, but pretty much anything gets better if it has good green maneuvers, Push the Limit, and Boost.

I'm not sure if Kavil necessarily needs that kind of maneuverability since it's easy to keep something outside of your arc without assistance, but if you're not hurting for the points it's good stuff. I'd rather put that on a Firespray though, especially with Kath and a K4 though.

Edit: I'd be all over Kavil with Autoblaster Turret, Engine Upgrade, PTL, and Unhinged actually
