It is not a general odds people. It is a specific way of betting on the scores of a game.

Should I care? Or should I accept that the meaning is changing whether I like it or not.

Humour is like violence. They both come to you unexpectedly, and the more unpredictable they both are, the better it gets.

op please describe the appropriate usage because i have no idea what it's supposed to mean

If you don't use fractional odds you're a enjoyable human being who's poo poo at maths. Yes, "maths".

Say you have two football teams playing and the bookmaker sets the line at 45. That means total points scored combined is going to equal 45. You bet saying that the score will be either over or under that amount. So if I take the over I think there will be more than 45 points and if they do I win. It's pretty simple and one of the easiest ways to bet.

Trust me, you are taking this a lot more seriously then I am.

I suggest you just get under it.

Did you hear the one about OP being a punk?
Did you hear the one about OP being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about OP losing his nerve?
Or how he's just another loving sheep in the herd?
Did you hear about the money, how it made OP change?
So funny to me, all the time that they waste.
Did you hear the one about OP giving a poo poo?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

So assuming the over/under is chosen such that about half the bets will be on each side does the house mostly just break even with the exception it takes all if it lands right on the number or do they set the rewards up such that the payout is always smaller than what went in (like getting only 1.5x your bet rather than double).
