I met a videogame journalist once, he was a friend of a friend and we were chatting happily, then I asked him what he did he looked kind of sad and said he worked for IGN, i wanted to be nice so i was like "wow that must be good fun" but that just made me feel sad too as the unhappy silence stretched from seconds to minutes

As I explored the desolate landscape that Minecraft had generated for me, I couldn't help but be reminded of Modest Mouse's "The Moon and Antarctica." Like the random seeding in Minecraft, Modest Mouse present a world that is cruel, random, and empty, determined by forces beyond our control. Child of Light is a lot like Arcade Fire's "Funeral." Both are about children who have been separated from their families, both are darkly magical, and both reference Haiti and tea kettles.

I mimicked his cry and the woosh of the air rising around us as my mother laughed and my father and the doctor shared a knowing look. So you can understand, fourteen years later, the frustration I feel every morning waking up having never found a Shiny, much less a Shiny Zapdos. It was this frustration that drove me to steer my chair over to my desk and compose that public letter to Nintendo last week. The response was less than I had hoped for...
