A boy and his dog.
Opifex

When he sees the daemon engine move to avoid the krak grenade, Opifex sees his opportunity and fires his multi-melta, sure that the thing wouldn't be able to avoid both the grenade and the melta blast.

Half action aim, half action standard attack to shoot the blight drone with the multi-melta. 45 (BS) +10 (aim) +10 (standard attack) +10 (range) +20 (size) = TN 95. Also using my Weapon Tech talent for this encounter now, so for this turn only the multi-melt's profile changes to 2d10+24 E, Pen 20. Melta quality doubles pen to 40 at this range. Armour? What armour?

Vatra the Whisperer

Vatra comes to in a hurry, awakening from his unconscious state in a stupor... Had he really just FAINTED in the face of combat? Fighting certainly wasn't his forte, killing people by his own hands was never something he had been especially talented at. Yet, to be AFRAID? Such was unbecoming of a follower of his Lord Slaanesh. Turning from combat simply wouldn't do. In a fury of rage the Apostate raises himself and points toward the horde of nurglite cultists, aiming his own las-pistol into the mass of enemies to fire along with his troops.

"MY CHOSEN, REDUCE THESE FOOLS TO DUST AND SHOW THEM OUR POWER!"

Today I'm... amped up!

Victus

Fear Check vs. 43: 38!. It's a pass, but barely.

Dodging the blast (albeit narrowly), Victus thanks the Dark Gods for this mild bit of providence, seeing as how he was a little lacking in it when he made his first stupid charge. He was gladdened by the presence of his comrades this time, though, and he quickly realized that the reason why they were there this time was because he made a smart decision.

Another one suddenly occurred to Victus. Thanks to Erika's... uncharacteristic generosity (not that he was complaining about it!), he had a Power Sword. In front of him was a so-called 'traitor' human dedicated to Nurgle. Regardless of the fact that he had the right idea to worship the Dark Gods, he had the wrong idea to oppose their warband. And a Power Sword, regardless of quality, was an excellent tool to cut down any who opposed them.

On top of that, the Nurglite had not one but two Space Marines to contend with. After Victus' painful learning experience, he realized that he should never engage someone one-on-one.

Engaging three-on-one, however, is fair game especially since he had a little advantage to help negate any armor...

I am Charging the Nurgle DUDE engaged with Zegasi and Bazroth. WS should be 48 + 20 (charge) + 20 (for ganging up 3-on-1) for a total of 88.

This will probably go as poorly as the last attempt, given our luck. But this is more of an effort to give the two guys currently engaging him an additional +10, because if Zegasi hits it is probably all over for him (DAT FORCE SWORD).

Everything looks perfect for Opifex, the vile daemon engine was distracted by the Veteran and the Warpsmith even activated his extra-juice mechanism to ensure the full potential of the melta canister of his weapon. He aims his intimidating multi-melta at the blight drone, ready to unleash hell. Unfortunately when you pull the trigger you hear a *FWOOOOOSH* as one of the connection tubes of your cursed weapon tears itself off. The powerful ionized air shot is completely wasted, immediately falling off the tube into the deck of the Rust Wave. (Rolls a natural 100 and jams.)

Where the Sorcerer and the Dark Apostle simply can't manage to hit the bloated castaway officer, the Renegade Victus picks up the slack as he charges at the ganged-up enemy with furious speed. Erika's power sword slams into the big belly of the nurglite with force, he groans a little but barely stagger. You feel the stink of his body as the power field boils pus, rotten blood and black entrails, letting out a green toxic smoke. (You roll EXACTLY 88, deals 12 damage.)

Vatra and his loyal bodyguards fire their weapons at the enemy mob in impressive coordenation, but only a single shotgun blast and a lucky stub revolver round have any effect, as two bleeding bodies hit the floor. (Deals only 2 Magnitude damage.)

The combatant mob of the Rust Wave keep a furious melee with the nurglites, and while the enemy is fewer in number, their more resilient bodies shrug off blade swipes and club slams, as only one of the enemy castaways is violently slaughtered. (Your own horde hits, but rolls terribly and deals only 1 Magnitude damage.) The counter-attack for this insult is ferocious, as the organized nurglites all advance at once with their poisoned blades. A good amount of the surviving combat crew of the Rust Wave and all your rescued prisoners are massacred, by the pure presence of the Heretics they are not routed at once. (Enemy horde hits too, but they roll ridiculously well on the damage, dealing 13 Magnitude damage to your Horde. Your Horde passes the Willpower test to not run away.)

The big blight drone hovers in the direction of Opifex with surprising speed. Immediately it fires a dangerous toxic glob out of his Mawcannon Phlegm, passing a few inches from the Warpsmith's helmet. The daemon round goes over the ship and hits the ocean behind them. (Hey at least the dice are terrible for the enemy too, rolling really bad in a point-blank range standard attack.)

The nurglite officer takes a look at the only Heretic so far that injured him, a grin full of rotted teeth. "I shall take my time with you in a moment, lucky worm." He swings his toxic axe against Bazroth, taking advantage of the reckless attack from earlier. His furious swings strike at the leggings power armor, causing deep scratches, but not enough to penetrate it. (His Swift Attack hits and hits Legs, good thing you grabbed those power leggings eh.)

Blight Drone 35/35 Wounds AP 9 TB 12 (4 of this TB is due to Daemonic Engine (4), negated by Sanctified/Focus/Psychic attacks damage.)
Nurgle Officer 10/22 Wounds TB 6 AP 2 Body AP 3 Rest

A boy and his dog.
Opifex

When a tube on the gun comes lose, Opifex curses loudly and vulgarly in binary. Sure, the thing hadn't been intended to be carried around separate from the machine it was built for, but still. The odds of such a malfunction were less than 5%, and it had to happen just now? Scrambling to not waste the precious melta goo, he scoops up what he can with his enormous armoured gauntlets and carefully pours it back into the weapon. Muzzle-loading what was usually a vehicle-mounted heavy melta weapon was somewhat unorthodox, but he had better things to be doing than worrying about what some geezer on Mars would think about his technique.

Images of the scavenger marine getting eaten by a shark play in his mind, and he realise just how close to the edge of the boarding ramp the daemon engine is hovering. Focusing on the rotors apparently holding the drone airborne he transmits a loud but directed burst of static, seeking to overwhelm whatever warp-cursed circuitry controlled the rotors and short them out, hopefully disabling them.

Half action to unjam my stupid melta, thanks to Technical Knock. Half action to target the blight drone's rotors with Binaric Curse. Next turn, gonna try pushing the blight drone overboard.

Advancing towards the horde, Erika snapped off another shot, grinning madly. She'd forgotten the simple pleasure of gunning down the weak and distracted, and stealing the lives of Nurglites, all of them so desperate to hang onto their empty, joyless existence that they would worship a god that took away pain, as though pain was something to fear instead of a glorious reward... that was the best part. Vatra the Whisperer

Vatra cringed as he witnessed the Rust Wave's horde fail their attack against the enemy crew, then simply shook his head as the nurglite horde proceeded to slaughter half of their followers in seconds. This fight was NOT going as planned, if Plaga had been involved no doubt they'd already be killed and skinned. Lucius joining the melee might sway it to their advantage, MIGHT, the Apostate didn't wager his life on mights. Pointing toward the horde he yelled for his chosen bodyguards to unload another volley and opened his mouth to speak.

"Your enemy mocks you, they seek to tear you to pieces and wear your skin as a trophy. Those lucky few who don't die they will infect and let fester for weeks on end until you're begging for someone to end your miserable existence. They think themselves better, harder because they follow Grandfather Nurgle. But the only thing chaos will respect today is SAVAGERY, deny these fools the pleasure of victory, rip their bloated bodies apart and toss the rotting carcasses into the ocean as true homage to the gods. Fallen Rib
Ariston the Hekatonkheir

That the daemon engine avoided his grenade was of no real consequence...it would have brought him immense satisfaction for his throw to have landed, true, but its intended purpose was to maneuver the drone into position for Opifex to swat it from the sky with his melta. In that respect it worked flawlessly.

What should have happened next was a great flare of actinic light and followed by the the war-machine's utter destruction as a blast of superheated air reduced it to slag. Instead all that came was the telltale sound of a weapon malfunctioning. Ariston's response was an inhuman bellow of rage and hatred that momentarily drowned out the sound of scavengers fighting and dying in the brutal melee across the boarding ramp. The burning sting of thwarted ambition, of victory snatched away at the crucial moment, of betrayal was like an overwhelming pressure within him, boiling over into white-hot fury.

Even if it cost him all his remaining ammunition, every erg of power in his armor, even if it cost him his last breath, he refused to accept defeat here. He would see the death and destruction of all who opposed him, daemon or no, if it was the last thing he ever did. Fortunately it was at that point that the warpsmith redeemed himself, unleashing a harsh burst of static that caused the daemon engine's rotors to suddenly seize up, sending the construct plummeting to the deck, twitching helplessly.

Vulnerably.

He wasted no time...the battle went to those who ruthlessly seized the initiative when it presented itself, and he had fought many such battles in his time. Ignoring the Nurglite scavengers as Vatra rallied their own forces against them he charged across the deck towards the downed drone. This time he wouldn't put his trust in capricious, fallible weapons. Instead he simply raised his boarding shield and slammed into the drone with all his might, roaring as he attempted to shove it over the edge of the ramp and into the endless ocean below. "Let us see how well your master's pet fares for itself beneath the waves!"

Opifex's curse went off according to frajaq so it's time for this thing to :fuckoff: I'm gonna have Ariston charge it with the intention of just knocking it off the ramp and into the water. Have fun learning how to swim, rear end in a top hat.

#acolyte GM of 2014

Finally Bazroth furious attack strikes against the enemy, and it strikes hard. The nurglite raises his plagued axe and parries the first swing, but the power field of the accursed crozius simply pulverizes the weapon, scattering the pieces to the ground. The second strike hits him straight in the huge belly, sending pieces of entrails flying smoking in the air. He lets out a huge *GASP* and is forced to kneel, but he's still not yet downed. (Deals 13 damage, Concussion forces him Prone and Stunned for 1 Round. 2 Fatigue and -3 Toughness due to Criticals.)

Erika and Lucius continue contributing to the massacre of the nurglite castaways, the former blowing two of them with a single shot of her powerful bolt pistol and the latter tearing the throats of two enemies foolish enough to get close to the Death Priest. (Deal 4 magnitude damage together.)

At the bellowing words of Vatra, his fanatic bodyguards fire their weapons again, before the counter-attack from their own combatant mob. The bullets, both shotgun pellets and reliable revolver rounds put three of the nurglites down. Already the combined bodies of both Dead Shark and Rust Wave begin to stink the place, rising over the harsh smell of frantic battle. (Bodyguards deal 3 magnitude damage) Invigorated by the Apostate words, the Heretic's castaways resolve into one final charge to finally trample the enemies to the ground. Even the extra toughness granted by them due to service to the Lord of Decay is not enough as the bodies, blades, kicks and punches press on them, and the combatant crew of the Dead Shark is completely annihilated without mercy. The survivors of the Rust Wave roar in triumph.

Even with the multi-melta refusing to work at literally the worst moment possible, Opifex has one last trump card against devious technological monstrosities such as the Blight Drone. He couldn't be called a true Warpsmith otherwise. He sends a mixture of garbage corrupted data over the Noosphere, static burst and radiowaves with conflicting binary orders to the daemon engine in front of him. For a few seconds the rotors at the side of the drone start to malfunction and crackle, releasing noxious fumes out of it. Finally they completely cease to work. Leaving the machine in a very vulnerable position near the edge of the boarding ramp.

Ariston comes charging through the fallen bodies, scattering and crushing bone and meat under his power boots trample. With his boarding shield up, the Veteran musters all the strength possible in a massive slam against the Bright Drone. His enhanced strength due to power armor and astartes physiology are enough to knock the daemon engine off the ship, it falls down like a disgusting sack of bricks.

Before it hits the water, the Heretics can hear a deep confusing howl from the thing. Was it conflicting daemon emotions? Was it angry at suffering such humiliating fate? Confused at his non-aetheric parts suddenly not working? Glad that he would finally be released from his Shell, which would be destroyed by either water pressure or swarms of Sabertooth Sharks tearing the thing apart? No one knows, because it is never seen again.

Victus and Zegasi exchange a look at the almost dying nurgle officer in front of them. The castaway leader raises a feeble hand and opens his mouth to say something, but the Renegade and Sorcerer tear his body apart in savage blows before he says anything.

Silence fills the joined decks of the Rust Wave and Dead Shark, only broken by a few moans and groans from your injured combatant crew, but most likely they'll live. They wouldn't have survived in Furia if they weren't naturally tough.

Noticing that the battle noise was over, Gozer pokes his head out of the stairs leading down, to see that his group was victorious. On the Dead Shark side, the non-combatant crew, around twenty harmless-looking mutant castaways, comes slowly crawling out of their holes in the rusty scavenger ship, as they look in despair at their defeated forces rotting on the ground.

Combat is over.

Ariston laughed in triumph as he watched the daemon engine sink beneath the waves, its mournful howls soon swallowed by the fathomless depths. All around him the Nurglites' tenacious resistance finally broke, their foul bodies hacked apart, their mortal champion laid low.

He turned to face their own warband, ragged though it may have been, and hammered an armored gauntlet against his shield before raising his fist in triumph. "Victory!," he shouted. "The strong survive and the weak perish! Mourn not the dead, for they were tested in the crucible of battle and found wanting! Instead rejoice that you live to fight and grow stronger still! This is the truth that lies at the heart of all war!"

Suddenly everyone aboard the ships hear a deep, growly, disturbing and powerful space marine voice! ...coming from the vox caster in a cabin on the Dead Shark, where two of the heretics were running to warn Plaga, but thankfully were intercepted and killed. Even coming from the radio the voice sounds really authoritative. "Plaga to Dead Shark. My children, tell the crew of the Rust Wave to cut the lying throats of their captives. The fools were deceived by desperate words. There is nothing here, no supplies or survivors, we'll do a quick double check and return. Nando, are you there? Over. *PFFFZZT* "

On the other side of the scavenger ship, a worn boarding ramp lowers into a garbled metal mess of voidship hull that looks almost physically torn, with a huge gaping hole into the Imperial wreck, only darkness inside.

Gozer

The Sanguinary priest pokes his head up from where he had been taking refuge from the foul Blight Drone. He slowly climbs back on deck and makes his way to his compatriots. For their enemy to have a Blight Drone, an operational Daemon Engine, on a world like this, did not sit well with the Heretek. If just one scavenging party had a blight drone, imagine what they might have for other defenses.

Drained as they were from that last fight, their hopes of defeating Plaga were diminished even more. If they were unable to secure enough salvage from this Imperial ship, the whole venture may have done them more harm than good. Gozer makes his way to the remnants of the battlefield, and begins to drag the dead and dying from both sides to the center of the Rust Wave. If they were to engage in combat next with a Plague Marine they would need any help that they can get.

"We should not lets these fresh kills go to waste. If we so desire, we can beesech Khorne to aid us in the fight against Plaga ahead, perhaps to harden us against whatever foul disease he may give us. Khorne will only bless those dedicated to him or Chaos Undivided, if we use this ritual."

Want to use the bodies to get a bonus on the ritual of slaughter from Tome of Blood page 64. We can get any variety of bonuses (I'm thinking bonus to toughness tests) in return for me passing the test and offering something to Khorne, I think Plaga's head could do. The test is a 76 for me before we even look at bonuses for like skulls and poo poo, with no penalty for me failing it if I do. Plus if we pass we get 1d5 corruption to boot.

Only problem is it only gives bonuses to unaligned/Khorne worshipers, and if we fail our end of the bargain we each loose 1d10 infamy. So I guess we need to determine if we have enough unaligned/Khorne folks to make it worth it.

That's probably why my memory is full of gaps and I'm fighting like some idiot amateur. If you do that ritual, I won't be participating. I'm seeing lots of discussion and ideas in IRC about what to do now so here's some stuff to keep in mind:

Plaga is heading back here one way or the other. You can buy some more time with a Deceive test over the vox caster, but would be at -40 penalty due to Plaga paying much much attention to his children and knowing their crew's voices one by one. Unless you have the Mimic talent and copy the voice of the Nurgle officer.

The Dead Shark has a few items to loot inside the lower decks. It will be a -10 Awareness test to find useful stuff due to darkness, obviously the -10 penalty goes away if you have Dark Sight or whatever. If you don't manage to deceive Plaga the test goes to -30 Awareness as you hurry up, if you want to grab something before he returns with his troops.

Gozer's ritual can be prettied up with prepared circles/skulls of the fallen if you buy some time (and you want to kill Plaga in the first place, you could always just loot poo poo/fuel, try to sabotage the boat and run away). Under current circumstances like this being a Khorne world and him being Khorne-aligned, Gozer already gets +20 to the ritual, and more if you pretty up the place in creative ways.

There is a single hole on the wreck that its the only way Plaga will come. You're already at an above position but can prepare ambushes if you wish.

Of course there can be more ideas on what to do so discuss away.

edit: also for the Ritual of Slaughter to end well, one of the conditions will be to kill Plaga in melee combat only.

"I might have liked to further examine what sorcery put that thing together." He shrugged. "Though it would take such intrusion rather unkindly, so...on the whole this was probably our safest outcome. Thanks to Ariston and Opifex, of course."

He smirked at Erika's concept for a ritual. "Doubtless there would be more involved than just placing such on an altar and chanting appropriate prayers; perhaps we could scavenge for volunteers as we go?" But then a chatter came from the vox - and this time it was Plaga himself. "It seems that we have somewhat more pressing concerns. Doubtless if we continue our streak of deceit then we should not fail to hold the advantage."

Almost forgot and this is important enough to have a separate post in the main thread. Waci and I were talking about the whole Infamy Points use tied to Corruption track in IRC.

I don't want to change the system too much but I'll only do this House Rule about it:

:frogsiren: :frogsiren: :frogsiren: FROM NOW ON YOU CAN USE YOUR INFAMY POINTS TO RE-ROLL FAILED CHARACTERISTIC TESTS, EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE MORE THAN 20 CORRUPTION POINTS. UNLESS YOU'RE ALIGNED TO NURGLE, THEN YOU CAN EAT poo poo. :frogsiren: :frogsiren: :frogsiren:

It took a few moments for the bacterial-induced frenzy to subside as nurgles little gifts stopped breeding in his blood. As the rage left him, hands trembling from adrenaline withdrawl, the nurglite looked down at his dead brothers in something very like pity. "Flesh to rot to flesh anew, may Nurgle welcome you into the eternal cycle. Immortality is yours, brothers, though not in the way you would have hoped for."

Dragging his feet across the filthy deck, Lucius pays little attention to any of the activity around him as he checks one corpse after another, finally walking over to the corpse of the large officer. His memories of the fight, already hazy, made him think that this man had fought well, against insurmountable odds. He was one to be honored.

It took mere moments of knifework to loosen the skin from the ruined form, the already open belly providing an easy way to remove the flesh from the skin without cutting it to shreds. Moments later, Lucius's eyestalks were poking through the empty eye sockets of the dead man, his skin now acting like a large encompassing robe.

His simple rite completed, Lucius looks around, his head finally clearing enough to pay attention to what was happening around him. The nurglite crew cowering to one side, one of his companions trying to set up a blood rite using the corpses of the dead. A foul voice speaking through the Vox.

"I don't want to be here when Plaga gets here. Nurglite warbands tend to be a close bunch. He'd probably blow the ships up trying to avenge his friends."

He is too distracted as to how to proceed, and perturbed that there is all that fresh blood up there, but he lacked any facilities or worthwhile equipment to use it on. He suddenly gets an idea and rushes back up on deck.

"I have one potential solution to our current situation of being under equipped, but it is a drastic measure. Just as putting a daemon inside a weapon greatly increases its power, the same is true of mortals," Gozer's voice becomes much more rushed and frantic, "there would be disadvantages. Weapons don't have souls, mortals do. As the host, and daemon, grow stronger, the daemon is able to exert more and more control. Eventually the daemon will devour the soul of host."

He becomes somber for a moment, and then his eyes light up, "But the power you would wield until then would rival that of some of the strongest non-daemon Prince Vetrans of the Long War."

Vatra cringes as he hears Plaga barking over the vox, he was hoping that the plague marine would continue to be occupied for some time. Perhaps this one wasn't as stupid as he thought. He needed a new play, something to keep them in the ship long enough for their makeshift warband to prepare a proper greeting. Ideas flashed through his head, each shot down in turn after he gave it a second of deeper scrutiny. Finally the Apostate let out a sigh and walked towards the vox caster, rubbing his vocal cords as he walked over. Even those who didn't want to gamble were forced into it on occasion. Vatra reached for the vox caster and began speaking in a half-growl eerily reminiscent of the Nurgle officer they had just slain.

"Betrayal! Betrayal Father! The Rust Wave crew charged as soon as they docked with us and tried to wrestle command of The Dead Shark away. The traitorous Slaaneshi flew on board and ripped through a half dozen crew before we even knew they were hostile! They sought to distract you away from the ship to try and take command... Vatra begins bellowing out a growling laughter. The look on the fools faces when the machine began obliterating them was priceless Father. It brought death to most of them in an instant. Those already on board the Dead Shark fled like the cowards they are into the Imperial wreck. The Slaaneshi marine and a strange human wyrd included. I halted pursuit of them. I know you want to respond to this treachery yourself Father. Your children hope you enjoy enacting your vengeance. Over."

The Apostate sets the vox caster down and scratches at his stubble. The best lies always did have a bit of truth in them. Hopefully Plaga hunting through the wreckage for runaway survivors would buy them enough time to make preparations. Vatra walks back towards the group and addresses them with a soothing voice.

"I've delayed his arrival as long as I'm able. Whatever strategies you wish to employ to make this fight more advantageous, I suggest you get started immediately."

Power at a price wasn't an unfamiliar concept. Trade and piracy alike were all about that. She'd sold a lot of strange things, but had never considered selling her soul. After all, how could one aspire to immortality without a soul?

But now, after watching everything she did bounce near-harmlessly off her foes? Now she knew what it was to be weak, and suddenly immortality didn't seem so important. How could she earn apotheosis in her current state? How could she even return to the Helix? If she was going down, she wanted to do it in flames.

More importantly, no matter what the priest said, deep down she knew no two-bit lesser daemon called up by some crackpot Tech-Priest could ever really devour her soul; her soul was clearly too magnificent, even with a few Bloodthirster bite marks. Who said she couldn't kick it out after she'd had her fun?

Erika steps back from the stairs to the lower deck and grins. Time to get back into the Dark Prince's good graces.

"You say there's power to be had? I'll pay your price, Gozer, and prove you wrong. Shove all the daemons you want in my head; they won't have any idea who they're messing with. Can you summon a Daemonette under these conditions? A Slaaneshi daemon might not take kindly to a Khornate calling it up, but I think we have enough desperation, sacrifices, and crates of cheap porno to make up for it. Will it help if I get high as hell, because I have obscura and a flask of fine wine. Mixing them will seriously screw you up, take it from a Slaaneshi."

"Additionally, I should recommend against Gozer leading the ceremony. I mean nothing personally, Sanguinary Smith, but such efforts as these entail a degree of...polarity. A Khornate attempting to summon a Slaaneshi daemon would simply not do, at least from the perspective of the Ruinous Powers."

They are as treacherous and fickle as the gods themselves, and if you are not vigilant they will set even your own self against you. This I know all too well."

With that he made his way across the deck of their latest prize, such as it was, and ventured into the hold in search of anything useful that might lie below, his enhanced autosenses turning darkness into day.

From the other side of the vox channel, Vatra hears a growl. "The fools DARE hurt my children? And betray the Scavenger Lord just like that? I'm curious about what madness befell on them, did a new warlord appear in Kanro perhaps? No matter, the death of these traitorous weaklings will be swift. Take care of the wounded. Plaga out." The radio does silent.

Meanwhile some of the Heretics plunder the meager holdings of the Dead Shark, the remaining mutant crew too helpless to do anything to stop them. The underdecks of Plaga's ship are what you expect from a nurglite scavenger ship. It's dark, dreary with a permanent green haze around everything, maggots and worms infests the walls, floors and even the ceiling. In a chamber with an access port up, everything inside is covered in a fleshy sickly green corruption, very likely where the blight drone was kept.

In the middle of a pile full of weapons in terrible condition, Lucius spots something decent enough to use. The nurglite holds a dark green scythe in his hands, the blade at the tip looks deadly and sharp, and there's still a little bit of some unknown foul ichor on it.

(You find a scythe! 1d10+4 R Pen 3 Unbalanced, Felling (1). It has the Toxic (2) quality for only 3 attacks.)

In a small ammunition case, with faded yellow markers, Zegasi finds three strange grenades in the middle of some rotten entrails. Just picking one of them you feel an unhealthy warm that tickles, even through your power gauntlet.

(You find 3 Rad Grenades. Thrown SBx3 S/–/– 1d10 E Pen 0 Blast (2), Irradiated (2))

In what passes for the "infirmary" of the Dead Shark, Ariston searches through supplies too decayed and corrupted to work with anyone except the mutated crew... with the exception of a single purple vial, hidden in one of the cracks of the room, containing a powerful but taxing combat drug.

(You find a dose of Barrage. "The Heretic gains Unnatural Strength (5) and Unnatural Toughness (5) for a number of rounds equal to his base Toughness Bonus. Side effect: Once the effect has worn, off the Heretic suffers 1d5 temproary Strength and Toughness Damage and becomes Stunned for 1d5 rounds.")

Gozer paces back and forth for a few minutes, the faint clicking of his cerebral implants sounding over the waves. "We have two objectives, yes? Destroy Plaga and his Honor Guard, as well as try to salvage some deranged tech priests that those of you originally on this ship found, correct? I propose a division of resources. The astartes, those humans among us inclined for combat, and most of our loyal followers stay here to perpitrate the ambush on Plaga. The remainder of us less suited for combat, and some of the followers as escorts, make our way to the last known location of the tech priests, Yes? Privately Ariston thought that Gozer's plan had as much to do with providing the tech-priest an excuse to remain safely out of harm's way as it did efficiently utilizing their forces, but he nonetheless had to admit that the Khornate smith had proven his worth lay more with the mechanistic arts than the martial.

"Very well," he said. "Take only those we can spare...Plaga is sure to be a resilient foe, and strength in numbers may prevail where strength of arms is lacking." He studied the entrance to the wreck with a practiced eye. "The boarding ramp is a natural chokepoint but there is far too little cover nearby. If they possess anything more than rudimentary weaponry they would be able to simply push us back or cut us down where we stand. You!," he said, pointing to some of the scavengers nearby. "Find crates, barrels, scrap material, anything to serve as adequate cover, and position them there and there," he pointed at various positions on the Dead Shark's deck.

He turned towards the Rust Wave with a contemplative rumble. "One resource we have in abundance is promethium. You or Opifex could utilize some to craft explosives or incendiaries, either to be laid as traps or hurled. I found this in my explorations as well," he said, holding up the vial he discovered in the Dead Shark's infirmary. "A potent chem-draught, powerful enough to give anyone the strength of an Astartes for a brief moment, or an Astartes the strength of a Primarch, at a cost. Whoever believes they can best make use of it is welcome to, it may avail you against even a Plague Marine. Now let us hurry...we have an ambush to prepare."

Awareness Check at -10 vs. TN 30 = 76.

Finding nothing of any real value, nonetheless Victus strides up to the Sanguinary Smith and takes his Power Axe in his other hand. The act of finally having two weapons in hand prompts Victus to commemorate the occasion.

"With this sword, Erika, I shall grant our foes the swift and artful death that Slaanesh desires. With this axe, Gozer, I shall spill the blood and collect the skulls that Khorne so covets. Through me, both gods shall have their just rewards. Through us, this so-called 'Father' Plaga will know that none can stand in the way of Chaos Undivided. Let us prepare this killing ground for our unholy sacraments and enable our foes to seek communion with the Dark Gods by offering us their lives!"

As he says this, Victus flicks the weapons from one hand to the other, getting used to the weight and balance of both. Up until now, he had practically been fighting their foes with one hand tied behind his back. With this second weapon, he could finally reach his true potential in physical combat. That is, of course, provided that he does not die first - he is still weak from the earlier encounter with the Ork and is distinctly aware that a head-on assault will probably get him focused on and killed. He would need to use the Space Marines as a spearhead, and once they had broken the enemy lines he would need to reveal himself and tear them apart from the inside out.

To do this, Victus needed to find a good hiding spot and ambush point first...

I'm currently going to try to either find a good ambush spot or create a decent hiding place. If I can use that to take out a big guy or two in a round, that will be good. I can take the drug and it will help me to carve through people with massive strength and be able to shrug off most injuries, but just as a reminder with my TB I will have three good rounds - after that I am going to be totally and utterly hosed. If our enemies are still standing by then, there is a drat good chance that I will die horribly. It might be better used by a SPESS MEHREEN whose TB is high enough that it could conceivably last for the entire combat.

"It may not hold him for long," Ariston said, all too aware of the tenuous position such meager cover provided, "but I do not plan to fight him for long. The champions of Nurgle are known for many things, their resilience and their stench among others, but speed is not one of them."

He pointed with one massive, armored hand towards the ramp leading into the Imperial ship. "When Plaga and his warband emerge from the wreck they will be forced into a bottleneck. We have between us three bolters, a sorcerer, Victus lying in wait, and you. Once they are in sight we can begin firing upon them before they have even reached the boarding ramp...if the Word Bearer cares to provide suppressing fire," he said, the sobriquet like a slur in his mouth, "then Opifex and I can can pinpoint our own fire while Zegasi employs his own talents freely. After we have taken our toll, assuming they close the gap, then we shall move to melee with Victus emerging to strike them from behind, and we shall reunite Plaga with his children."

So saying he held the vial out for the death priest to take. "If you wish to join the fight I will not stop you, only warn you not to charge recklessly into our line of fire. Bolt rounds do not discriminate between ally and enemy."

I'll swap positions with Lucius but I'd prefer it if he didn't immediately charge to melee right away and let us do some shooting in first, but otherwise he's free to use the drug and get his licks in. Don't forget that you'll need to roll to resist addiction afterwards :v:

The plan Ariston outlined up there mirrors my own thoughts...chew up the approaching forces from range while we can rather than charging recklessly. Those who aren't as proficient with ranged combat (like Bazaroth) can suppress while the rest can shoot/zap targets of opportunity, then when they're close to the "wall" we can move to melee and hopefully finish them off.

Vatra the Whisperer

Vatra takes one peek into the dreary plague infested hold and decides there is nothing of value in store for him, giving up his search before even attempting it in earnest.

"I'll be staying here to wait for Plaga, as much as I don't want to be involved in a fight I simply can't pass up the opportunity to see the face of a plague marine when he realizes how easily he was deceived.

The Apostate walks back to the deck of the Rust Wave, flanked by his devoted bodyguards.
