This is what happens with most every social media thing ever anyhow, people en masse abandoning something in favor of some slightly newer nearly identical thing, for reasons usually little more then "everyone else is doing it". So either the profile pages would likely have to get updated every few years anyhow, or end up with really outdated stuff hardly anyone uses like it is now. I hope eventually that trend starts to stablize out, as the whole "Okay everyone now we are using ICQ, now Yahoo Messenger, now AIM, now MSN" or "Teamspeak, Ventrillo, Mumble" "Myspace, Facebook" etc. when they are all basically the same thing gets old. It is actually one of the biggest reasons I don't bother with most of it anymore, because if you wait long enough to see if something is actually going to catch on, and you make the effort to start using it, it might be on its way out soon anyhow. So maybe just put a field for SA user name in so you can find out the forum name of the user's profile that you are checking so you can check their profile to find their name, because they probably have an SA account if they are on SA. Seriously though, I agree putting too many niche things on there is probably unnecessary, though.

Lowtax posted:I don't know if I'd go with that list, for example a lot of people use Youtube but mostly to digest content, not create it, so it wouldn't be the best to use that for a field. Plus their Youtube channel could always be put in the wildcard "Homepage" field. I think a Youtube field would get a lot more use from goons than Facebook. I don't see a ton of people linking their real-life profile for a bunch of goons to look at, plus it could get end up getting Helldumpy if someone makes a really dumb thread and leaves their personal information out in the open. Plus, imagine what'd happen if someone with a linked Facebook profile posts in FYAD. Meanwhile, many forums have use for Youtube profiles. The obvious one is Let's Play, but it'd also be good for review series for the various discussion forums, tutorial series for boards like AI and GWS, or for showing stuff off in Creative Convention. If someone likes what a poster's doing and want to see more of what they're doing, do you think they'd be better off looking at that poster's Facebook account or Youtube channel? Or just have like ten lines with two blank fields each where people can enter the name of the service and the URL, so people who really want to show off their ICQ numbers can still do so.

Would it be possible to split the fields between Social Media and Gaming Handles/Tags? Not that it would really be necessary but it may look better aesthetically to have it set up similar to: Social Media Google Chat Homepage/Other Gamer Tags Steam PSN XBox Live Battle.net I'm not sure how much traffic the Blizzard/WoW subforums get but they seem pretty active so I'd assume a fair number of goons have battle.net IDs.

You could leave a field blank and let the users identify their own social media site. In a few years with whatever new application has hit you won't have to change much.
