Well, Xillia's sidequest structure made it pretty hard to miss stuff. Like yeah, stuff was time-locked, but so long as you made any effort towards getting everything, you'd, well, get everything. Dungeons were simple and all the sidequests were from random NPCs in town, as opposed to having arcane requirements just to get on the sidequest.

Combat is improved and it expands on a lot of things from Xillia 1 plot-wise but it depends on your feelings for Xillia.

If you liked it but thought it could have been more, I'd say get it.

If you were indifferent towards or hated Xillia 1, then it's not gonna change your mind.

Yeah, it's not completely nonviable or anything. Ludger gets most of the neat toys but all the others work fine too, and it's easy to switch who you're controlling mid-combat.

Probably not? The story is 50% expanding on Xillia 1's story and the battle system is almost but not quite exactly the same.

Well, it probably felt half-assed to you because it was pretty rushed (though I liked the voice-acting.)

Anyway, this game is a sequel and reuses a lot of voice acting, so you might think of it as half-assed too.

Yeah, the debt's another one of those things in games that's more for flavor than actual gameplay effect but people still blow out of proportion. Just relax about it and you'll be more than fine.

The recycled stuff doesn't bother me, but for some insane reason Xillia 1 is my favorite game of all time, so I'd probably take a game that was just that again only with Ludger lazily photoshopped over Jude.

Well, the plot going to poo poo in the third act is kind of a 'but,' but nothing's perfect.

Also, am I the only one having trouble making use of all of Ludger's movesets? Two would be fine, it'd just be like a Graces character sort of, but three feels like too many and it's kind of hard to keep all three movesets in mind while doing combos. I often find myself ignoring guns unless the enemy's specifically weak to them or I'm linking with Alvin. The fact that the switch input is two buttons instead of one doesn't help - sometimes I accidentally mash it out and get swords when I want guns or hammer when I want swords, or whatever.

I'm having fun with the game so far, but my only real huge complaint is that cutscenes move forward like a powerpoint presentation-- they'll never stay on the same frame for more than a few seconds, characters will be in a wildly different pose from moment to moment... no fluidity, basically. It's really jarring, and makes it feel a bit cheap.
Xillia 1 had that problem, too, especially whenever Ivar was on screen.

That's what they seem to be doing with Zestiria. We have a lot of info on it and it's still a ways off: if they're aiming for the 20th anniversary of Tales, it won't be out until winter 2015, though of course they could just be aiming for the same year and not the same exact timeframe.

I was a little confused by the Ailium Orb at first, but once I realized it was basically just filling up bars, I came to like it a lot more than the first game's system. Sure, you're still prioritizing artes 99% of the time, but at least you can see what those artes are before you get them. I even had to actually think about things a couple of times!

Way better than Xillia 1, where you just had to blindly guess. Is this random skill icon absolutely critical to how the character functions (Most of Milla's mid-air skills) or is it worthless crap (chicken run)? Who knows!

Even worthless skills like Chicken Run at least give you an SP point or two, too. It's a way better system all around. I just wish it explained itself better visually. Maybe instead of the weird grid, have it as bars with the skills/artes as lines across them at certain points. That way you could see everything at once.

Well, like I said, even worthless abilities at least get you some SP. And Xillia 1's late game was 50% 'empty levels', since you didn't have enough points to get to the actual arte/skill icons, so you just got random stats that didn't really mean anything.

Neither is really setting the world on fire in terms of customization, so I like the one that takes me less time to mess with.

If you don't care about story at all, then sure. But if you do care about the story, like 80% of the game is just expanding on characters and plot points from Xillia 1.

Also with Poker don't get greedy until you have a lot of money. And maybe don't get greedy at all. There's basically no way to lose money since you're betting 100 out of like 10000 and any combo of cards results in a profit, so you can just play scared and make money slowly but surely.

Xillia 1's was over in like ten minutes. You moved forward, you fought Wingul, cool music kicked in, you solo'd some random enemies, then Gaius and Muzet took your revolution.

I found the easiest way to deal with this fight was to just use a super simple combo of Azure Edge -> Couple of Swings -> That one Fire/Wind Sword arte (binding chains?)

Then hope to god you never get hit by the Arcane Arte and end up confused.
Energy Shackles is the arte you're thinking of. And be sure to tack on a Falling Thunder at the end just because you should do that at teh end of every Ludger sword combo.

Goddamn it, why did I have to find the poker game? Because of my completionist compulsion I won't be able to continue on until I've paid off the entire debt and gotten all costume poker rewards. :sigh:
The best thing to do with the poker game is to just not get greedy. There's no way of losing any real money once you get going, since you're playing with 100 at a time, so just hop off double or nothing once you get around 10k.
