A friend/coworker of mine is from India and dislikes Dr. Pepper too, he says it tastes like "tonic" (medicine/cough syrup) and he has the same complaint with root beer. I can kinda see the similarity between Dr. Pepper and root beer so I wonder if there's a similar ingredient that just tastes off to people who haven't acquired the taste.
