clickme Blame! Maybe on earth Maybe in the future Tsutomu Nihei originally serialized in AFTERNOON published by Kodansha Ltd. Just as the mini title says Blame! it set in a time and place unknown but seems to revolve around a desolate society which is constantly threatened by silicon creatures (Psychotic robots threatening to destroy humanity) and the safeguard, most notably Sanakan a deadly killer controlled by an unknown central intelligence. The city is gradually being rebuilt by huge machines to a point where it is becoming infinitely large and uncontrollable. Killy A mysterious agent who wields an extremely powerful energy weapon which is the only known weapon to be able to penetrate the Mega structure constantly searches for a way to save humanity by means of the net terminal gene thought to be carried by a human living in the vast city. Killy runs into Chibo A scientist who is has been imprisoned for inadvertently causing her lab to be destroyed while trying to hack into the main grid. Killy frees her thus giving her the chance to help him bring piece to this hellish world. All over characters are doomed to die instantly after meeting Killy so the manga pretty much revolves around these two main characters and the various evil Silicon creatures and Safeguard which is alerted by killy. Dhomochevsky Is another main character who is like a cooler version of Killy who is followed by a bubble named Iko who acts as his sidekick. The style of Blame is typical of Nihei's other works: Abara Biomega Noise Which are very dark almost Gothic and seem to carry on the theme and also act as loose prologs to Blame! mentioning a plague brought on by technology and utterly bringing the world to ruin. Although Blame! is very confusing as it jumps from one time and place to another in no apparent order it is very well written and is a true Japanese epic similar to works like Akira or Ghost in the shell. Well worth reading to the end if you are at all into scifi adventure stories like The matrix or the Terminator for example.
