Echoing this because I'm taking my first real "go to campus, sit in class" classes in five years at the community college. Even though none of the people in these supposedly advanced classes are freshmen, they mostly seem lazy, whiny, and incompetent. If these assholes can pass, I can make an A.

The priorities and time management problems you will see are hilariously awful. Ya I was a little worried that I had a Chem professor who was a total rear end in a top hat because of reputation, but after going to the class and comparing it to others it seems just that he's the only one that treats students like adults. Seriously "don't buy plane tickets for break before the registrar schedules the final, really, I will not work out an alternative for you" is some sort of controversial loving policy? Why would you even consider buying tickets if you don't have that information?

If the teacher is worth anything they'll tell them to leave. I've seen that happen once, and the teacher told them to gtfo and find a sitter, or drop the class.

I saw it once, again, junior college. The student even asked in advance (granted it was in front of the whole class, put her on the spot) and she said it was cool. This prof also encouraged people to friend her on Facebook. Still a better learning experience than big boy college.

I feel like some have a lot of really great and on the verge of retirement teachers. I took an "earliest civilization to 1500s" class and it was loving amazing. Couldn't wait for class to start. Professor was old as poo poo and had taught for 40 years or something crazy at the local university. Had his own book published for the class and everything. Told a lot of famous historical events like a story.

I had a Cuban teacher who taught history at my CC and I took every one of his classes. He gave really awesome lectures that were organized insanely well, and he was really interesting. His family fled Cuba when he was a kid, so he was really anti-communist and poo poo, One time a dude came into class wearing a Che Guevara T-Shirt, and it became him yelling at the class about how he was a murdering rear end in a top hat who deserved to burn in hell, and he smelled like dead pig poo poo. It was an awesome lecture. I would smoke before class in front of the building, and from time to time he'd bum one from me and tell me how he would move the family around and get jobs at different schools so that he could get his son's education for free. Dude owned. edit: He had also written a book about the Bay of Pigs invasion, and he never made us buy it for the class or anything. I think I need to track it down now. Holy poo poo he's writing historical fiction now about the Cuban Revolution, I'm picking this up ASAP, http://www.amazon.com/The-Struggle-Begins-Unbroken-Circle-ebook/dp/B00EENTPPA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top Nostalgia4Butts fucked around with this message at 23:57 on Sep 3, 2014 |

Had an English professor who barely spoke the language and had an accent so strong she probably got fired from Dell for being unintelligible. I don't know if anyone got better than a C. Also, that class taught me what a "fruitarian" is. It's a scrawny dude who should probably be dead and never grew to full size due to malnutrition.

One class at UW Tacoma was 5 credits and met on two days, so you could stack three 2.5 hr classes on a Monday and Wednesday then have the rest of the week off. I'd go get a couple beers with lunch too, it owned. I think its the same at big UW, but good food and beer isn't literally a block away anywhere on campus.

If school is easy you're doing it wrong. You're wasting money if you aren't taking the best science and math courses you can. If you're breezing through, keep adding upper division technical courses (math, stats, hard science, comp sci, etc) until it is hard. Don't gently caress off and act like you didn't trade a good portion of your youth, and probably a significant portion of your life expectancy, for a second chance to not be dipshit, jesus. There's seriously no excuse for not understand how the world works at this point, and how it works is that people who have skills that are in demand get to set the terms of their employment and people who don't get to grovel. If you spend out your GI bill and don't pack in every actually employable skill, you should stab yourself in the face repeatedly.

Breezing through your EE degree? Take more upper division math, or add in some extra comp-sci. You never know when those skills will help you. This isn't like the military where you won't get paid for it if someone needs it.

Yeah, it's totally a great idea to follow up 4+ years of being miserable doing something you hate with another 4 years of being miserable doing something you hate. If you like science or math or need to make fat stacks when you graduate, then by all means do some STEM poo poo. If you hate math or science (like many of us do) then tell STEM to suck your stem and learn about history or playing with rocks or get a rhetoric degree and live your dream writing erotic fiction about your co-ed roommates.
