Speaking of which, how is the Cornish independence movement going?

A lot of people keep talking about Yorkshire independence now too.

Where does it loving end this is ridiculous. Let's just have independent streets

As well as giving bills silly names in America the other thing they do (do they do it here?) is attach unrelated stuff to other bills to get them through.

That should be 100% against the rules.

All this talk of homeopathy means it's a good time to tell you all to check out your local Skeptics Society or Skeptics in the Pub meeting. Also come to QEDcon next year. https://www.qedcon.org

There WAS a homeopathic hospital and funding in Liverpool but we managed to put a stop to that. :)

Thanks in part to stuff like this: http://www.1023.org.uk/

And a lot of letter writing and attending debates.

The homeopathic hospital in my trust is attached to our palliative care unit. They have all sorts of strange alternative therapies available but it's not like they do much harm to these patients. They are at least fairly upfront with patients about the lack of evidence basis.

That's the weird thing really. A placebo can work even if patients know it's a placebo.

Can't remember where I've seen it but more expensive placebos are apparently more effective. They're also more effective if they're more painful.

Gold-plated ocular injections for all!

More dramatic interventions are more effective. Ben Goldacre talks about this. So an injection has more effect than a pill.
