My beef with it is the computer cheats at higher difficulties rather then getting better. If you try to be diplomatic they make completely unreasonable decisions unless you pay them everything you've got. It's annoying as gently caress.

Yeah it sort of sucks. And I don't really want to memorize a Civ wiki page to figure out how likely another civ is to do agressive actions on a scale of 1 to 10 in place of getting more detailed feedback in-game.

Because it's turn based it's really the only game I play nowadays, and it doesn't shut down when I put my laptop to sleep mode

this is why alpha centauri is so good, because the AI does this way less

at least I remember the gaming being real good at letting you play civs against each other and poo poo.

My freshman year at UMASS my friend stayed on my computer playing civ for almost 48 hours straight, no sleep just beers and bong hits and the lovely food we'd steal from the dining hall for him. He peed in the mop sink across the hall so he wouldn't have to go too far... :ohdear:

Its worse than an MMO, at least MMOs are about being social with other weirdos. Civ is about sitting there for days pressing a button and then telling all your friends about your awesome Alternate History. Like, in your world, the Dutch are a desert-worshipping tribe that founded Confucianism and then it spread through the entire continent, after they wiped out the Catholic Iroquois in a Holy Crusade.

Well, you won't HAVE friends after a few playthroughs. But you can tell your cat about it. Wait the cat died. Well anyway it's time to start a new game. This time as the Maya.
