You didn't mention the most important reason to do quests in this game: Cass has all the best dialogue.

Outside of the first couple floors of the first stratum, EO1 is a lot more forgiving (or at least less brutal) than its successors, and it doesn't really hit bullshit until the 6th stratum (which is sort of... what the sixth stratum in this series is for). It feels clunky, but not so much so that you can't enjoy it. I think my biggest gripe about the game these days (outside of scale farming) is the incredibly scrunched font it uses. EO2's actually pretty generous with shortcuts. Plus it lets you re-enter a Stratum at the third or fifth level once you've reached it.

Glazius posted:Those force skills are pretty neat. How many kills does it take to grind one up? It seems like you might be able to get a lot of mileage out of that free giant heal. At 5 points a kill, it's 20 kills to max out your Force gauge. Any strategy that revolves around using your Force skills will involve a(n endgame) consumable that fills your gauge instantly.

PotatoManJack posted:Wow, the amount that this game likes to kick you in the nuts is pretty funny. Hey, you're only two floors into the dungeon the first time the game decides to steal your lifeline. You might be able to crawl back before something eats you. Maybe. And then you'll have learned a valuable lesson about nature for the next five times the game pulls the same trick.
