It's time to beat the game! Just so there isn't a big block of coin collection updates I'm going to hold off on Luigi for a little bit, but that means you get to see the epic conclusion of Mario's quest. I really love the Bowser fight in this game, so do check it out! Part 9 (Peach's Castle): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj0IdOhmJCM

I thought this game was the one with the Mega Gold Mushroom that turned all your enemies into coins but I guess it wasn't.

That was a really fun quick kill on Bowser, yeah. Having not been able to play any of the new Super Mario games (my last one was 64), this has been really enchanting to watch. It feels like Tiny Mario was deliberately underused compared to the Wii versions (at least, that's my impression) - sort of curious to see if it gets picked up/used more in aftergame or in Luigi's story.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS was the coin obsessed game. The regular game is fine, but the coin rush DLC is incredibly fun. Torokasi posted:That was a really fun quick kill on Bowser, yeah. For the most part it's still pretty limited to a few star coins.

We're getting close to the end! The difficulty curve feels a bit flatter in this world, which to be fair the game has gotten pretty difficult to this point. That doesn't mean the levels won't be creative though! There are a few in this world that really bring joy to my cold, dead heart. Normally, I feel like I could figure out where each of these Star Coins would be, eventually, but I sort of suspect the one just above the second pipe (the one you can't see, just have to jump into) would be the death of me - I am bad at checking up when there's nothing up visibly to check. Looking forward to seeing how Star Road functions in a modern day game.

Superstar Road! The first four levels done live with some minor frustration, cursing and victory. Also a minor video glitch that meant I had to edit out 3 seconds of video. Part 10 (Superstar Road 1/2): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUQvfbipnT0

Okay, that's some serious chops on Superstar Road. Great work getting through it all. Kind of wish the P-Switch music was more of a backbeat than a level overwrite, though.

Still really enjoying this LP, especially since I've started watching the Sonic one too and the clear disparity in the moods these games put you in is hilarious. Though I wonder if I'd be in a minority if I said that the Superstar Road levels seem more tedious than really challenging, and kind of lacking in visual stimulation too? I don't know, maybe I'm just personally worn out on the New Super Mario Bros. aesthetic.

Superstar Road could be very cool if it were space themed, even just for the backgrounds.

Luigi has to rescue the Princess eventually, so we should do that right about now I guess. Peach's Castle isn't too different from Mario's, at least compared to the differences in some of the previous worlds. It is still fun though and really challenging at times! In SMB if you touch the flagpole of any level with either 1, 3, or 6 seconds left on the ones place of the timer, you will get that amount of fireworks. It seems that they might have adjusted that to give you items on curtain number combinations.

I think the second coin in that fire bar level would be much easier to collect if you jump over the top bars on the way there and just collect the coin on the way back, going in the same direction of the bars. Also, I know we're not quite there yet, but I found an interesting fact about the Luigi version of the final level: quote:This is the only level in the game in which Nabbit is not playable in the single-player mode after entering the level while holding the Classic Controller ZL Button (B Button on the Wii Remote). Instead, the player becomes a Mii, making this the only level where they are playable. Apparently, the developers had planned to make Miis playable in every level, but decided against it at some point, possibly because Miis look really ugly in a platformer.

I am going to quote this to help remind myself to do this. I wanted to save Nabbit until the end but that's really cool. Thank god they didn't end up going with that concept though. Sweet, my to do list is now "Ask about the price of live chicken, play as Nabbit, play as Mii."

Managed to lose track of this thread, but glad I caught back up - yeah, this looks like a really fun two games overall. I have no clue on that second star coin in the pendulum stage, though; if you can take the Ice Flower that far, can you freeze the guys down below, sneak through the bottom that way, and get the Star to let you get the coin? Otherwise you have to be pitchperfect jumping to that coin and turning back around which looks painful as gently caress.

You can get to the star across the bottom without getting hurt if you're very precise. It's even theoretically possible to get an 1-up out of it, if you leave all enemies alive on the way there you can kill them with the star afterwards.

That's one way to do it, it can just take forever because you can't pick up enemies if they are under those platforms. It's pretty easy to do if you can duck onto the middle platform and then jump when they swing left.

It's time to wrap this up. Superstar Road Part 2. I recorded this live and the audio ended up being recorded on the laptop mic not the headset so that sounded like crap.
