The thing about New Super Mario Bros is that it strikes me as what would happen if Nintendo never did Super Mario Bros 3 and just kept going in the same way they did 1 and 2 for the rest of the series. They add new minor mechanics but overall the game stays largely the same and doesn't do anything to surprise you. I still play it, but the "new" title really just doesn't fit it anymore.

Actually, Sumo Bros are the ones from Mario World that stomp the ground and drop lightning/fire on you. Those guys on the ship were Sledge Bros.

Carbon dioxide posted:Apparently, the developers had planned to make Miis playable in every level, but decided against it at some point, possibly because Miis look really ugly in a platformer. They made a big deal about "New Super Mario Bros Mii" at E3 one year. There's no reason they couldn't have kept that feature.
