We would use smoke signals to send messages to the nearby villages. It was fun for awhile but they kept on calling me a fag and to kill my famil.

Bolt.com mostly on the UK section of the forums. Terrible stuff. I can recall one poster called 'Tanya Buttimer' who was the first gimmick account I'd ever come across online and her deal was telling stories about her weird family life and her redneck parents who somehow always used to embarrass her all the time.

My first was the Official X-Files forums. That would have been around 1999/2000. I'm actually still friends with a couple of people from there. One of them got his handle in the new XF credits! I read a lot of MSR and Mulder/Krycek fanfic. Then it was a forum dedicated to Robin Black and the Intergalactic Rockstars, lolz. Then LiveJournal. Then Something Awful.

I used to hang out in the kids section and the games section of the AOL site when I was a kid. My family didn't want me going on the full internet at a young age, I might have gone to inappropriate places. I should have rebelled, because now I rarely try out other sites that interest me. I did develop a love of video game related websites though. My first real forums I treated like home... 1. Sydlexia.com, a website about 80's and 90's pop culture. Website is awesome, but the forum was full of angry antisocial spergs, and it's dead now. 2. RPGDreamersForum.com, was a fan forum for RPG video games. They tried to become a full news site, but suddenly shut down without warning a couple years ago. gently caress.. 3. GaiaOnline.com, this gets a lot of hate from the internet. I loved this website because I saw my anime loving friend using it. She also introduced me to anime too, and I became a weeaboo for a couple months. OK website if you avoid the shitpost threads, and hope the overmoderating assholes don't take offense at your opinions and ban your account. EDIT: I don't see why people are disapproving posts about BBSes. People that used BBSes back in the day are older and more hardcore with tech. I'd like to read about people's BBS experiences. I think my first major forum was avault (some game review site). from there I was a fairly prominent poster in the pre-beta-shadowbane-forums, from the time they announced it until beta. It's funny I spent more time anticipating that game than playing it. Around the time that was hitting retail I came here RE: some fark or lumthemad article.

The ZSNES board. Through multiple iterations. I even became staff after I proved I could clean up after trolls by first using a SQL injection hack to gain admin. I also used edited dead accounts to troll. Too bad one time I accidentally changed password without a while clause. That was fun for everyone. Now it's pretty much dead and I only have gmod rank, which means I get to see the hundreds of daily auto modded spam posts. I also used to post on the personal forum of a friend from the ZSNES boards, which housed several other weirdos and even a real life pedophile, unapologetic about being 28 and in a relationship with a 14 year old girl whose parents were totally okay with it.

The Starship Titanic forums that were honest to god segregated by where you had gotten to in the game or something. It's an adventure game that required you to progress through passenger classes to complete, and for some reason people actually took it pretty seriously when you got your 'captains hat' and poo poo. Place ran until the day Douglas Adams died, at which point the forums were abruptly removed and the website was replaced with a lovely ad hoc tribute. Also Gaia Online. [edit] Now I think about it I reckon it was probably Gaia Online that put me onto SA. I know at least a few of the regular postin' buddies had accounts here. RPing in sailor moon and DBZ chat rooms on AOL. Had my first (and last) internet relationship there, which ended when my mom picked up the phone. Once I realized there was an internet outside of AOL it was seanbaby.com. I also spent a lot of time owning adults playing strike-a-match on boxerjam's website.
