Thufir posted:I don't think there's much coaching or systems in rookie games, they're basically shinny with set lines. No reason to look for trends game to game. The Sharks and Ducks had the head coaches of their minor league affiliates. I'd imagine this is another tool to evaluate players. There's not a lot of time to learn systems or anything. It did just look like end to end rushes with occasional zone possession and power plays.

Ritchie is out for the rest of Traverse City with a broken finger; he should be ready for camp in two weeks.

In similar prospect news, Jared McCann has been sent home with Mono and will not be attending the main camp. That means neither of the Canucks two first round picks this year will pull on a Canucks' sweater in any capacity this season.

DOOMocrat posted:What chance does Bo have of seeing time? Benning left the door open for him to make the team, but he's been thoroughly underwhelming in this rookie tournament. Then again he started off training camp incredibly slowly last year, but by the end of the pre-season looked ready and almost made the team as an 18 year old. He'll likely be in the OHL this season though, at best he'll get 9 games. His offensive game still needs a boatload of work. Shinkaruk has been the standout player for the Canucks so far, but most people figure he'll be down in the AHL to start the year. Same with Gaunce. The only rookies that are likely to see substantial time for the Canucks this year are Linden Vey (who's been all but guaranteed a spot on the roster) and Nicklas Jensen who needs to show he can be a consistent producer at the professional level. Dallas looks like it'll pick up the win over Buffalo to go 3-0, with Jokipakka-Honka being both the best named and best performing defense pair so far. Edit: Amerks asst. coach currently on ESPN radio saying "These kids must not care about their jobs" so I'm guessing Dallas had a strong showing. This Penticton tournament has been brilliant to watch. I'd love to see this kind of stuff once the actual season kicks off.

Dallas/Columbus for your Traverse City final, both undefeated. Dallas lineup will probably be this again: Brendan Ranford – Jason Dickinson – Gemel Smith Remi Elie – Radek Faksa – Matej Stransky Brett Pollock – Taylor Peters – Branden Troock Mads Eller – Cole Ully – Collin Shirley Jyrki Jokipakka – Julius Honka Esa Lindell – Ludwig Bystrom Patrick Sanvido – Aaron Haydon Philippe Desrosiers Henri Kiviaho The Faksa line is having a hell of a tournament but Faksa loves Traverse so that's not super surprising. Gemel Smith has proven to be an amazing anywhere on the ice utility player already and is just letting it all hang out. Kiviaho is getting his first North American starts, I wonder if he comes over this year or if this is the benchmark.
