One of my coworkers probably spends a 200-300 bucks on lotto tickets a month. He complains about how he can't afford healthcare at the same time.

When my neighbour won $10,000 in the lottery, I told him "on average, you lost money buying that ticket, so it was a bad move." I did not get any lottery winner generosity from him.

I'll buy a $1 scratcher every now and then. Fun way to spend a minute. Some times you win sometimes you don't but no real loss if you do.

I only buy powerball when it's really high and everyone is playing. I spend like $10 bucks for 5 tickets just to be a part of something once or twice a year. I also enjoy having the "What would you do with 500 mil!" conversation.

yah it's p. hosed the one here spends less than a tenth of what their advertising budget* is on helping compulsive gamblers *state monopoly, why do they need to advertise aggressively to the tune of a $100m each year?

also pretty hosed up: lotto gets a pass because it funds public schools but at least in michigan it accounts for like 5% of schools' funding I only checked the school I went to but it could be more for other places. I guess that would also be hosed up becuase how can you expect teachers to warn poor kids about the lotto when it pays their salary?? hosed up imo. hosed up.

When I was a little kid, my grandpa would buy my sister and me a few scratch-offs when we would visit them over the summer. Anything we won he'd use to buy us more tickets and we'd get the winnings when we went back home. It was nice of him because he knew we were bored out of our minds for the two weeks we were there because there's nothing to do in Central Pennsylvania after the fourth day.
