Don't know how I forgot about this one but it's definitely been a thorn in my side for many a puzzle. Hey crossword writers: how about some words people actually use?!?

Alai. Always with the Jai ___. Oh, and Aviv. Or Elal. Honestly when you've done a ton of crosswords you pick up on patterns, especially in the three longest answers there's usually a uniting pun. Once you figure the first one out the other two come easily. For about a year thr only way I could sleep is if I did a few crossword puzzles before bed. The best app is probably that 10$ one just called "crosswords". They can get really challenging and they offer a ton of European style ones. But lately ive moved onto picross. ....I wasnt supposed to effort post, was I?

How about wrinkled old fuckers that write the puzzles use relevant pop culture hints? Like, say, after the moon landing?

Trochanter posted:How about wrinkled old fuckers that write the puzzles use relevant pop culture hints? Like, say, after the moon landing? Crossword puzzle editors were useful in cryptanalysis so they let them dodder on into old age and crossword fans are so used to being like "aha yes the answer is so obvious" it's a sad kind of co-dependence Now the jumble is a man's puzzle
