rubber cat: Jul 1, 2002

aria - So sick of seeing this word in every other puzzle. It's like the "free space" of crosswords.
ogre - Especially if the clue mentions Shrek. I'm so over the Shrek franchise that it just makes me go "Really? "
eloi - Had to read The Time Machine in school. Hated it.
oreo - "Oreo" pops up with such alarming regularity, I wouldn't be surprised if Nabisco was secretly paying crossword puzzle writers.

Alai. Always with the Jai ___. Oh, and Aviv. Or Elal. Honestly when you've done a ton of crosswords you pick up on patterns, especially in the three longest answers there's usually a uniting pun. Once you figure the first one out the other two come easily.
For about a year thr only way I could sleep is if I did a few crossword puzzles before bed. The best app is probably that 10$ one just called "crosswords". They can get really challenging and they offer a ton of European style ones.
But lately ive moved onto picross.

Crossword puzzle editors were useful in cryptanalysis so they let them dodder on into old age and crossword fans are so used to being like "aha yes the answer is so obvious" it's a sad kind of co-dependence
