For UK buyers, this seems to be cheaper on GoG than anywhere else for whatever reason I am super stoked that I forgot that this existed and randomly stumbled on it because Penny Arcade linked to it. I played the hell out of the original but found the UI a bit fiddly in places and desperately wanted some more character options and different environments; it looks like these have been improved on significantly.

Reading the manual while this is downloading and I noticed no specific weapon specialisations! There are just 3 types: Light, Heavy and Missile. Good to see we won't have that horrible "found a cool item my party can't use" feeling in the sequel

Word of advice: my front liner evasion tank is getting his rear end kicked so I would recommend going for a couple of more traditional meatshield types.

I haven't actually found a front line setup that doesn't get destroyed by enemy attacks, you just have to dodge around a load and try not to get hit. Evasion feels fairly pointless, all the scary enemies seem to hit almost all the time anyway; maybe if you really stack evasion it is useful but it feels like protection at least does something.

Wouldn't it make sense to make your farmer a ratling so he can get tons of extra stats from Mutation, or is the extra exp for Humans really good for them?

Mycroft Holmes posted:So, what's the optimum party? Probably something along the line of 2 heavy weapon frontliners, 1 light (str) weapon backliner and 1 light dex weapon backliner. One of these guys should probably get some magic ability for utility spells, but unless I've missed something magic really isn't very impressive offensively even if you focus on it. Barbarian seems to be the objective best class for anyone holding a strength-based weapon, you get such a huge amount of extra hp compared to everyone else and extra +1 damage per level on top of that.
