 There wasn't a dice thread and now there is.    Dice are objects with numbers or images that when rolled will give you one of those as a result. Dice are commonly refered to by the number of sides they have. For instance, a six-sided die is called a d6 and a 20-sided is called a d20. How can you figure this out? Normally on a die that is properly numbered that starts at 1 (# of any side + # of opposite side) -1 = number of sides on the die Count the sides. Specialty dice have other things on them like images, colors, or whatever.     These are the physical pieces to games. When discussed it does not usually include standard things like cards and normally numbered dice unless they are of an exceptionally high quality. It usually refers to minis, specialty dice, and tokens. If you can include any pictures of the pieces you're talking about that would be great. If you descirbe a specialty die and don't have pictures you can describe the die like this if possible: Monsterpocalypse white die:  d6 1-3: blank 4-5: 1 burst symbol 6: 2 burst symbol or any other way that works for what you're trying to say about it. Where can I get some of these "dice"? A lot of games come with dice and you can but them by themselves. I always recommend buying dice firsthand at a local game shop so you can see what they look like and support local business but if you can't or they don't have what you want these places might. (If anyone has any other dice sites they like I will list them in the OP) Almost every dice site layout sucks balls btw. First one I want to talk about is the one I mentioned in the OP Monsterpocalypse white die: d6 1-3: blank 4-5: 1 burst symbol 6: 2 burst symbol When I GM I start each session off with a character question like "What is something from your characters upbringing that they'll never forget?" or "What is something your character wants to do before they die?" If they don't give an answer that is fine but if they do I give them one of these that they can roll to possibly increase a die roll they've already made by the number of burst symbols. I also gave these out when a player had a really good scene or did something awesome. There are red and blue versions of this die have an increased chance of getting 1 or 2 burst symbols and players could cash 2 whites for a blue and two blues for a red die. I also gave out blues and reds if they did something really cool. I mainly did this in systems like D&D that didn't have reward systems like Fate points.

I'd like to try and make some irregularly numbered dice to play with in a game as damage dice. Say, one that has nothing but blanks or 1s, but one side has a 10 on it. Or on has nothing but 2s and 3s, so theh got some consistent damage. I don't know if it would be a good idea, but it might be an interesting one. E: there are irregular dice like that called Sicherman dice, apparently. Except those are statistically cool instead of just in-my-head cool. If you like weird dice, check out Non-Transitive Dice and Sicherman Dice. Non-Transitive are crazy in that different sets will beat other sets in a rock-paper-scissors way. Sicherman Dice on the other hand have the exact same probability as a regular pair of six sided dice despite having number ranges of 1-4 and 1-8.

Irondie and the relatively-new "Dice Masters" series of games (Marvel was the original, but there's also poo poo like D&D, DC, and others in the works) are the ones that come to mind. Irondie has some incredible quality dice, but is crazy expensive. The dice work for anything that uses d6s though, so that's neat.

A lot of gaming stores and convention booths also have pay by the die where you can get any die for a quarter. Most of these are picked clean of d10s (by WoD roleplayers I guess) and d8s (Not sure why) but it is a good way to get a couple neat looking dice. I've done this and the pitcher at conventions so I could hand out dice to people when I got home from a convention trip. It makes an easy souvenir gift hand out item.

I've got a Pound O' Dice from Amazon. Tons of dice, no blobs of plastic or whatever. Many are either eye-searing or difficult to read (green numbers on green dice kinda things), so I had to pare it down a bit. It does come with one complete set, mine looks like lavender soapstone or something.

Die and component shout out to Dead of Winter: The most hated die in 2014:  The survivor half of the standees:  I'm glad they went with standees with this game. Having a bunch of miniatures that I'd never get around to painting would not have been that great to me. I usually always lean toward minis over standees but with this amount of individual characters I'd much rather have art. I have opposite feelings with King of Tokyo though, there are few enough of the monsters that I'd love a chance to paint those. I know it would be an all around dumb idea too with that game. If they released a pack of just the monsters as minis though I would get them for the cowboy T-Rex

In 3.5 you tend to use a lot of them for mid level spell casting as well. Also the OP forgot Koplow dice, they make everything, I am a big fan of the classic VtM style D10's they make in the marble green with red symbols and an ankh.

Got my Start Player Express dice in today.  You can do the directions but rolling the arrow die and 1 die gets you some pretty funny results like Most Nose and Highest Siblings

Anyone play poker dice? Kind of like a slightly grittier Yahtzee. You roll five dice, each of which are identical with 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A as their six sides. You get three rolls per hand, keeping the dice you want and re-rolling the ones you don't. The suits don't matter, just rank value, and the goal is to form the best poker hand. 5 of a kind, 4 of a kind, full house, straight, three of a kind, two pair, one pair, high card. Pretty simple, and it's like $2 a set in Colombia, so I've bought a bunch of these for myself and friends, and we'll play when just sitting at the bar or whatever. I taught two girlfriends of buddies who ended up playing about literally 50 hands at the bar the first night, so I gave them a set each. And at another bar I ended up giving two sets along with the tip to a bartender who was interested in the game. There are also (much less common) poker dice with more facets; I bought a set of 8-sided poker dice on eBay, so will give those a shot.  I have a vague goal to at some point make a kickstarter to fund a run of poker dice with cooler non-Anglo designs, like either Japanese themed, or Persian, or whatnot, with different emblems for the figures, numbers/letters in the different alphabet, etc.

Granted, you can play poker dice just fine with a set of 5 regular d6, but the neat face dice are way cooler.
