You guys probably remember the thread about the dude finding his roommate dead with a whole bunch of meat in the freezer. There was some serious concern about the chili recipe he used (he didn't have any beans in it), and I'd like to know what you consider to be the best kind of chili.

There is a brand of chili at Walmart that is cheaper than the Walmart brand so that is my favorite chili recipe.

Ground lamb Fat Back Peppers to taste, I like Scotch Bonnets and Bell peppers Zuchinni Red Beans Black Beans Red Lentils Grape Tomatoes (halved) Garlic Black Pepper Sea salt Lamb is pan treated and cooked in Fat Back grease. Regular 4 hour bath for the dried beans. Scotch Bonnets are sauteed with garlic. Zuchinni and half of the halved grape tomatoes go in 15min before serving.

chili is incredibly subjective and so far the only common thread that binds all chili recipes is it is a stew, so as long as it is stew, it's chili

In Wisconsin (and other parts of the midwest) people make 'chili' that looks like this: It's good but it's not chili but thats what it's called so deal with it I suppose. Don't worry people make real chili too but if you talk to someone without clarifying the image above is the presumed baseline.

Hobohemian posted:It looks like some sort of vegetable noodle stew, which can be delicious, but where is the chili part of the chili. at its base it's ground beef, chili spice and tomato sauce, so a vague version of chili. But additionally you add celery, onions, kidney beans, and elbow macaroni. It's like stretching out leftover chili or something. To be frank, it does taste good but it's not 'chili' like people think of it obviously.

Big Beef City posted:I've heard it refered to as goulash before, too is there a difference between that and chili mac? im only familiar with hungarian style goulash which is like braised meat stew, sometimes served with those little egg noodle things chili mac though is more mac that chili and should be thicker than a stew, more like a casserole. it was primarily popularized by automats in like the 30s or whatever it hink
