Because entropy exists. Why the universe even went about the business of being in a more ordered state to begin with, nobody knows.

The universe is like an imaginary friend and if you sit still and ignore it long enough it'll probably go away.

Entropy isn't a physical force, matter is just spreading out as the inter-dimensional boundary of our universe continues to expand like a balloon

Ocean Book posted:'matter spreading out' only makes sense in a universe where matter is spacially arranged Find, let me try to explain it in simpler terms The amount of matter in the universe remains constant while the space it's floating in gets bigger

Ocean Book posted:'matter spreading out' only makes sense in a universe where matter is spacially arranged Our initial universe condition occupied zero space with maximum uniformity, the fact that matter is spacially arranged or that matter and space even exist is because the universe is expanding and entropy (i.e. the number of ways that stuff in the system can be arranged) is increasing.

you're essentially asking a religious question OP, it's like asking why the speed of light in a vacuum or the gravitational constant are the values that they are and not some other value. some properties of the universe will seem arbitrary when viewed from inside the universe, we can never know why

Nobody knows or will know why the universe began in a perfectly ordered state to begin with, but you should just be happy that entropy is a feature of our universe that gave rise to stars and galaxies and the laws of physics that allow you to post about this crap on the internet.
