Go for it.

I live in an area that has 350+ sunny days a year and I still recommend an instrument ticket to everyone that wants to be a better pilot.

That being said: don't risk poo poo and don't let extra training lead to overconfidence.

I just got a part-time job on the side as an instrument instructor. I've had my II for over a year now and I've never actually used it, plus my instrument instructor was a joke and I want to avoid putting someone else through that. What's a good jumping off point for me? Anyone have a good instrument syllabus they use, or should I just chug through the PTS?

Basically, I don't want to wing it and look like I'm new to instructing.

Are there pre-requisites to taking the CFII written? Someone suggested with all the info still fresh in my mind I should get that one out of the way. So, I flew through Heathrow yesterday. Was I flying out at a particularly busy time, or is it just hosed up in general? I think I saw six planes lined up to take off (three in front of us, our plane, and then at least two more behind us). I don't think I've seen anything like that, even at major hubs in North America.

The terminal itself was pretty easy to get through, though; I don't know why everyone was warning me about it. It would have been quick and easy if the passengers in front of me were able to read the instructions and get through a security inspection in a reasonable fashion. How the gently caress have you reached international connections in London, while apparently having no clue how airport security works?

The flight school I work for part time sponsored a week long camp that I decided to help with because sometimes teaching kids about airplanes is fun (if they're interested.)

Most horrible experience of my career was flying with a 10 and 13 year old that didn't give two shits about anything I had to say, even when safety was an issue and I needed them to listen. These kids were absolute bastards and I'll quit before I set foot in an airplane with either of them again. I had to park 20 yards out and pull the plane up to the hangar because one of them wouldn't stop kicking the brakes on loving purpose the whole taxi back at a loving class c airport. What the hell god dammit argh gently caress.

These kids were constantly grabbing the throttle to idle and turning off the radio while we were in the air after I told them we weren't going to do that again 10+ times. This kid was 13 years old, almost in high school. This was more than "darn kids" stuff.

I think that all ANR headsets still work just fine with ANR turned off. edit: nm I see you already said that. If you want ANR later and can afford it now, then go for it. Leave it off until you are comfortable enough to lose some of the sound cues of the engine.

This. Regardless of the ANR, my Bose headset is the only headset I've ever owned that doesn't make my head hurt after 2 hours of wearing it. Plus my ANR doesn't take the engine noise out of the equation, it just takes some of the hum volume out. I can still hear pitch changes in the engine just fine, and would hear problems no sweat.

As for drone talk (woo!), I got my first call from ATC yesterday that someone was flying a drone in the practice area pretty high up. Requiring a transponder makes me roll my eyes, but maybe just have a small, more detailed, list of regulations, places and times to not use a drone? Like maybe just put a small amount of effort into thinking about what really is feasible?
