Yeah, there's no doubt that animals have (their version of) emotions.

I can potentially see a problem with dogs, being low-ranking in a human family, having permission to gently caress a high-ranking member (the human). That may be confusing for a dog, but I don't know enough about flock dynamics to say anything about that.

As for physical abuse, I don't see how a male dog is hurt by loving a human woman, or a female dog by a human man.

It would cause issues. Dogs, like wolves, don't really go for rigid hierarchies, but when they start to believe that they are dominant over their owner it can cause all kinds of problems. Not the dangerous kind, mind you, but it's really annoying and tedious to deal with.

Believe me, you have no idea. I used to volunteer at an animal shelter and we'd get dogs sometimes who had gone through things like that. It's heartbreaking. The worse ones are like rape victims, utterly terrified of humans and other dogs, completely unable to deal with them. Some don't know how to interact with anything except in terms of presenting themselves for mounting. It's horrible, that people would do that to something as innocent and loving as a dog.

I don't blame you for not knowing. It's not a happy thought to anyone, so people don't talk about it a lot even when they know, but... yeah, it's bad. Proportionally worse the smaller the dog is, due to the pain involved.

But fortunately the suffering is safely abstracted away from the average persons experience by the meat industry, so most plebs are okay with this. Same with exploitation, slavery, you name it, as long as it is done of their behalf and they directly benefit.

i don't disagree, but consumer boycotts are generally useless beyond personal feel-good nonsense, such problems require state intervention that at the very least favours better products if not outright bans those practices. meanwhile raping animals is still wrong and should be punished and perpetrators receive psychiatric treatment.

possibly, but one is imposed by powerful industries that can't be dealt with on a consumer level and the other is practiced by a handful of hosed up individuals that can at least be punished. loving animals is specifically legal here as long as the animal suffers no physical harm, several attempts to ban it have been shot down by the ethics committee and politicians�those things are easier to change than reforming an entire industry that bankrolls half of parliament.

and at least the food industry offs the animal after they torture it, no such luck for fluffy in the dog brothel.
