Nah, lot of US Whiskey is all the same and made in one factory in Indiana that found out its more profitable to churn out cut rate whiskey for people to slap craft labels on than making it to mix into their other products. See; Templeton Rye and the lawsuit moving forward against them for but one example of this factory.

Also; was the Whiskey Rebellion ever really a thing? I always thought it was the prime example of states having the right to suck it. So I have a dumb question. My mother makes quips about members of congress needing term limits. Is there any reason why this would be a good or bad thing if representatives and senators were only able to serve for a limited number of terms?

Mister Macys posted:Huh; I thought the US had stricter regulations on whiskey, bourbon, and all that. Well Washington Himself rode out to put 'em down. I don't know if it's true or not but my A US history teacher told it like an aged Washington rode up to the rebels, gave em a stern talking to and shamed them into giving up.

Mister Macys posted:Huh; I thought the US had stricter regulations on whiskey, bourbon, and all that. We do. the stuff made in Lawrenceville complies with all the requirements to be authentic rye whiskey, and the companies either use it as a blend (which is what it was originally made for, blending into the Seagram's was how they used it before it was sold to MGP) or they have the distillery location disclosed in the fine print. If you ever have a spare weekend to do a trip, I recommend the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. I did it about a month ago, every place goes through a spiel explaining this. If you go, you should plan out your drive yourself instead of using the bus service though, its cheaper and better. And thank you for the fix Xylo

Star Man posted:So I have a dumb question. In Missouri it entrenched the power of the lobbying class since people in this state are dumb as bricks and keep on electing shitheads who run to lobbyists for cash money and marching orders for what to vote on. It's not like this state was a paragon of good governance before but term limits just made things a lot worse by throwing out stability minded good ole boy new dealers for serious conservatives and rural robber barons.

Star Man posted:So I have a dumb question. You lose institutional knowledge and legislators who have acquired expertise in their committee subjects and in policy. This makes legislators ineffective and more reliant on lobbyists and pressure groups for learning about issues and how to run their state. Term limits have been a failure in every state in which they were enacted, and there is no good reason to enact them unless you are actively trying to subvert the democratic process.
