For the first time ever, I just stumbled upon a live journal with unironic uses of trigger warnings and gender terminology. I was so surprised that I had to hit the urban dictionary up for confirmation. I feel outraged and a little dead inside knowing that users are getting censored for writing about things like rape scenes in movies and riding elevators. What really? Galadriel who sits in her treehouse and can't actually help the heroes in any significant way? Arwen whose only role in the books was pretty much to give up her immortality for a man? Telling us these characters are powerful means nothing if they don't actually do anything with the power. Tolkien also did not invent the concept of a disobedient female warrior. For example, the legend of Mulan dates back to centuries ago, and that was far from the first as well. Also, excluding women from the orcs and indeed from all the villains isn't really a point in his favor. I enjoy the Lord of the Rings but it's gotta be one of the most dude-heavy things to ever dude.
