No More Heroes has the best soundtrack. Eh maybe the sequel was better.

Jerry Cotton posted:They were original music*. Grand Theft Auto 3 was the first one to use licensed music. you are correct, I just mispoke...i think one of the houser bros owned a record company (moving shadow records iirc) that supplied most of the tunes for GTA1 and 2, and maybe a few on 3 as well.

Not saying it's the best, but I've always had a soft spot for Vagrant Story's ugly-rear end "danger" songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4RfSO9zbK8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vUyfXBaQa4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-s4vRyzEfc The whole soundtrack is pretty great.

Shadow of the Beast (the Genesis version that was sped up when ported) is hauntingly beautiful. Symphony of the Night had some really good tracks too, a little bit of everything. On a related note, am I the only person that thinks the Terran music from Starcraft sounds like Rush, and the boss/fight themes in FF7 sound like Boston? Streets of Rage 3 because its soundtrack was partially made with a random music generator programmed by the composer and it was kind of ahead of its time and had an impact on the 90s trance music scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTLiikdx2Yg

Tekken 2 I thought always had a great soundtrack. And it's even better now that I've learned to appreciate cheesy late 80s/early 90s synth sounds.

Street Fighter EX + a had a fantastic soundtrack and was probably the last street fighter game to have a soundtrack that was worth a drat. Third Strike's is ok but overrated and SF4 has the worst soundtrack I've ever heard in my life https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDeZOPBJ-tc Gotta give some runners up to Final Fantasy 11, which had really awesome music completely wasted on an MMO that most people jumped ship on when WoW came out six months later https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WAcS-1H3BM the original Killer Instinct for perfect 90's dance/industrial/hip-hop cheese https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLBzgqVfffc the new Killer Instinct for being just overall really solid, plus every song is dynamic and reacts to what's happening in the fight. Can't wait to see what Mick Gordon puts out for Season 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lG80aYrXUE Perfect Dark was great throughout despite having to get crunched out in a miserable bit-rate by an N64 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLDJhm4Arzk drat Rare IPs always had really good soundtracks in general ^^^also yeah if we're counting Vice City then Vice City is obviously the definitive answer oh and Way of the Warrior for the 3DO basically just had the entirety of White Zombie's La Sexorcisto as the soundtrack so that might actually be my answer if we're counting music that wasn't composed for the game
