dumb poo poo like that will never go away. it's the same reason public racism surged after Obama. there is direct proof white males are losing their position of power. morons will always lash out at that

most teachers easily average 60-70 hours/week during the school year. could be more depending on how many classes you're teaching and how big your classes are. teachers are hosed, and unlike doctor the pay and respect never comes.

the cold war seems so weird to me. the ussr in theory was an actual threat. not a real one, but there was a constant "they could nuke us." the closest my generation has to that is terrorism i guess.

rotor posted:yet another cool remnant of the cold war. the director of the soviet biowarfare division confirmed they had a smallish stockpile of weaponized smallpox ready to go. The cool thing is that no one is really sure what happened to it. my wife did undergrad research with a prof working on making aerosolized anthrax. we've made far more nasty things since then

Marx was wrong about a lot. it was simple, Marx did not see the benefit of religion, therefore watching people die and willingly tortured/imprisoned over it was beyond his comprehension, he simply failed to account for the close relationship in russia between religion and politics

the history surrounding this is very interesting, the secularisation and privatization of the wealth of the Eastern Orthodox Church combined with the promotion of a patriarch that had political ties created tensions and led to a church schism that was marked by political dissidents
|
# ¿ Nov 18, 2014 19:52 |

the dissidents, who basically were aristocrats went into hiding and were hunted. Being impoverished due to their battle against the state the peasants rallied around them, though they were effectively fighting for the continuation of Russian feudalism

Marx was right in his critiques of capitalism but his use of the old believers as proof of that struggle was wrong. he was blinded by his own atheism and idealism that he forgot people were complex

from personal experience: many people do not read the contracts they're signing. a farm a few miles from ours rent to owned their mineral rights instead of just renting them. now they have a farm that can't be used for actual farming and none of the money from the drilling happening on it
|
# ¿ Nov 18, 2014 22:17 |
|
why yes I a previously semi successful farmer totally don't need a lawyer to proof this contract dealing with the ability to drill and mine my land
