I posted this over in Aftermath but I figured I'd copy and paste it here too. Part of me is considering mocking up a Monte Carlo model to figure out what records Philly and Dallas will have when they get to Thanksgiving. That would be the most work I've ever put into being a fan and all it'll probably say is "I dunno, they're both gonna have good records." Still, it might make me less nervous. Math and I have a weird relationship like that. If I actually got something working I could do similar stuff for other teams assuming other people gave me rough guesses at how likely they think each team is to win any individual game. axeil posted:The Cowboys are a good team with the league's best running game and a strong defense. axeil fucked around with this message at 06:19 on Oct 20, 2014 |

The NASCAR package with Matthews/Peppers/Perry/Neal looked pretty good out there. If the Packers hadn't dropped a bunch of points early, Newton probably would have had more opportunities to run (I guess his ankle is all better now?) and the game may have looked quite different (though I guess that's always the case with counterfactuals).

Doubtful. It was pretty obvious after the first two drives the Packers were going to run train on the defense. The Panthers just don't have the personnel to match up against Rodgers. Even though it was obvious as hell to all involved, they ran 4 running plays in their first six, and the best was a five yard newton scramble. Shula is a loving hack. The Panthers will go nowhere while he's calling plays.

Someone suggested that the AFC South is actually better than the NFC South which I laughed at, but after consideration it's possible that the Colts are indeed good enough to carry the rest of the shitshow division over what the NFCS has to offer

^^ Fair The Texans wins are the Redskins, the Raiders, and the EJ Manuel version of the Bills. I feel like we haven't proven the Texans can beat anyone yet. Tonight will be a big test. If they somehow beat the Steelers tonight, I'll feel a lot better about the rest of the season. It's looking like they'll possibly take up the mantle of 8-8 Texas team

axeil posted:I posted this over in Aftermath but I figured I'd copy and paste it here too. I think each team will have lost at least one more game by Thanksgiving, with 2 being the most each team would lose by then. So they should still be a game within each other, with the winner taking control of the division. For the Cowboys, I could see them dropping the Cardinals game and one of the divisional games with either Washington or NYG. Then for Philly, I think their most likely losses come from either the Cardinals as well or Green Bay. Its very possible that both teams could be sitting at 10-1, but I would say its more likely to see them both at 9-2 or 8-3. Regardless, it will still be a huge divisional game. I have never wanted to go out to a Thanksgiving game before due to being around family for the Holiday, but this year I am heavily considering looking for tickets for that game.

Oops, didn't catch my NFL/NFC mistake. NFC South has the worst combined net points of any division in the league at this point at a whopping -159. Next closest is the AFC South at -45, but most of that is the Jags. Only division with every team having a negative point differential at this point. Amazingly the Saints have the best point differential in the division at -10.

The stupid thing about the nfc south is that there's four teams with a really solid foundation. They just all happen to be coached by retards. They'd all benefit from a coaching exchange. At least the Panthers aren't Oakland. If nothing else I take solace in that. BlindSite fucked around with this message at 02:34 on Oct 21, 2014 |
