This is a weird coincidence as I just bought and begun playing Sly 4: the series has been on my mind recently.

The LP is going good. Look forward to seeing the rest. Maybe this was mentioned before, but why does the eges of the screen not change when the black bars show up? Side effect of porting it to 720(1080?)p?

Partly because of the port, but the effect is worsened by my capture device: I didn't even notice it until Sly 3 begun and I'm not really sure if I am competent enough to fix it, and at this point I'm afraid that it would just look weird. That, and it is a bit interesting to see what happens with the models when they go out of the normal camera.

Part 10: Mile High Club (Uncut version)

NEW CHARACTERS:

Name: The Black Baron
A flamboyant and arrogant dog (?) who has controlled the dog-fighting air space for the last couple of years, defeating challengers left and right. thanks to his gunship blimps. Outside of that, no one knows much of him, not even his real name. But perhaps a silly thing as identity isn't very important when the unknown man is shooting down your planes.

Name: Dimitri Lousteau
A party-loving marine iguana who used to be part of the Klaww Gang, where he printed false money and sold illegal spice on the black market. After Sly defeated him, he seemingly turned from his criminal ways and became a simple dance instructor... but somehow, he found his way back in jail. Thankfully, Sly ended up saving him, and is now the commentator for the ACES competition.

Name: Muggshot
A mean, gun-toting bulldog, who after being picked on by bullies, and with some inspiration from mobster movies, decided to start working out until literally half of him was muscle that could beat the crap out of anyone that had made fun over him. Used to be a part of the Fiendish Five, the same gang that killed Sly's father, but was beaten by Sly in Mesa City, thanks to concentrated life. Unlike Dimitri, Muggshot stayed on his criminal path and picked up a taste for dog-fighting between games, where he's renowned for his brutal and vicious tactics

Edit: vv Mislabeled the uncut version, fixed now

I do like how along with admitting that Sly could easily beat him, being the first boss from 2 after all, Dimitri points out that starting a fight would get Sly disqualified immediately.

NEW CHARACTER:

Name: Penelope
A genius Dutch mouse with a love for and exemplary skill in remote-controlled vehicles, Penelope is one of the Black Baron's mechanics, thinking that he is the best of the best, even going so far as to not join the Cooper Gang unless we beat the big mustache himself. Her love for tech and skill at Photoshop rivals that of Bentley's.

I don't deny that Dimitri is competent, but he is one the goofier characters in the game. Remember that his money counterfeiting operation had nothing to do with distributing Spice throughout Paris, which could be done with just the nightclub's food alone, nor did it make sense for him as disgruntled painter the way Rajan and Jean Bison's uses of the Clockwerk Wings and Talons made sense given Rajan's pride and Bison being a lumberjack.

Maybe if Dimitri was printing counterfeit paintings rather than money, it might have made sense but otherwise it just seemed like the writers didn't know what to do with the Clockwerk Tail Feathers. Hell, printing counterfeit money seems more like something Muggshot would do since he actually ran a casino thus would have a reason to print fake money just to screw with any would-be gamblers.

Yeah, I was just kinda making a joke at Dimitri's character. But Sly 2 was kinda rushed out, what with a cut level and all, so maybe if Sucker Punch had been given a bit more time, they would have made the tail feathers forge paintings instead. Then again, that would also mean that Comic Cutscene Clockwerk Parts would look anything like their in-game counterparts, which they didn't bother to double-check. So yeah, blame dev times I guess.

Part 14: Panda King's Pandemonium (Uncut Version)

NEW CHARACTER:

Name: Panda King
After being turned down by Chinese royals who believed his firework techniques were lacking, the Panda King became a ruthless explosions master, who threatened villages with being buried in snow unless they paid "avalanche security money". If that wasn't enough villainy, he also was part of the Furious Five, the gang that killed Sly's parents and ripped apart the Thiveous Racconnus. After his defeat at the hands of Sly, he went back to his family and took care of his daughter Jing King.... until she was taken away by General Tsao, who also forced Panda King into exile, where he meditated upon his greatest defeat over and over again.

Chimera-gui

I think Sly was more upset about recruiting the Panda King because we're trying to recruit the Panda King, Muggshot is still the gang's enemy so meeting him in Holland is one thing but knowingly recruiting one of the murderers of Sly's parents? Can't say I blame Sly for being against the idea even though the Panda King is the best man for the job.

Honestly, it's more the fact that Sly didn't even mention that Muggshot was a part of the same gang. I mean, I get that he's pretty miffed about recruiting Panda King, I think most people would be if they had to recruit their parent's killer, but still, it kinda feels weird to me.

Chimera-gui
Mar 20, 2014
True but it might have been meant to imply that Sly is wondering just what the loving hell Bentley is even thinking to actually suggest recruiting Panda King of all people.

I'm sure Sly hasn't forgotten that Muggshot was in the Fiendish Five as well but that fact itself wasn't particularly relevant to the Holland mission since the most interaction the gang had with him there is goading him into a fight with Carmelita and getting arrested, something I don't think Sly would object to unlike here.

Name: General Tsao

He seems to have respected Panda King while he still was criminal, as Tsao wants to marry his daughter Jing King for the only purpose of uniting the Tsao and King bloodlines, even forcing Panda King into exile to make sure he would never interfer with the wedding plans.

Stereotypical Yin Yang symbolism aside, bonus points in the fact that the Panda King has both black and white fur for obvious reasons, I do like that the writers didn't make that mistake of completely dropping the original game's characterization but rather have him confront it in the form of his dark side.

Especially since, like with Sly's distrust, it makes perfect sense for the Panda King to have some resentment towards Sly over what happened in the first game even though he's clearly trying to keep it from blinding him to what's really important much like how Sly is trying to keep himself from being blinded by the aforementioned distrust. It's pretty good character development for both of them.

Also, I don't think that the Panda King was so much offended by Sly's joke as bewildered. Unlike Sly who was able to develop a sense of humor, the Panda King seems like someone who'd have a some difficulty understanding jokes.

Oh yeah, as I said, I do like that Panda King mission, even if the dialogue is a bit generic. Sucker Punch are a lot of things, but they aren't really bad writers.

Huh, never thought of it that way before. Guess it's just King's voice tone after Sly says he'll leave that confuses me

The pottery was probably based off of an experimental alarm system in which vases with shaved goatskin wrapped over their tops were placed into holes with keen-eared guards posted at them to detect where tunnelling armies were coming from and intercept them before they could actually penetrate the fortress/city being invaded.

Also in fairness to Carmelita, it's not like we haven't gotten away with paper thin disguises before. The only time one didn't work was during the Lumberjack Games and that was only because Jean Bison had threatened the judges enough times to catch on when we started giving him zeroes.
