Actually OP it makes perfect sense. Any temperature above absolute zero represents some level of energy higher than the ground state (if you get really far into chemistry you'll find there are some caveats here but for laymen it should suffice). As such, negative temperatures don't really make sense as a concept and beyond that it breaks equations where temp is meant to be used as a scalar.

For day to day life we never encounter temperatures close to absolute zero so it makes sense to use a modified system that gives us easier to work with numbers. For that I actually prefer Farenheight over Celsius because it fits pretty well in a 0 to 100 sorta way.
