it's easier to think about it if there are 1000 doors. If you pick one and the remaining 998 doors get opened except for one other, The chances of you picking the correct door first are one in 1000. but there is a pretty good chance that the other remaining door is the correct one. so you always switch

i would set this problem up for kids in my 7th grade class and ask them what they thought the answer was and when they were wrong I'd say WRONG and tell them they were stupid. if i was feeling benevolent i'd reframe the question in terms of 10,000 doors but usually i'd just sit there smugly. i was a popular child
