JediTalentAgent posted:Honestly, I think I would have liked Lexx a lot more and I think it would have a lot more pop culture respect if it took itself and the universe it existed in with a lot less kinkiness excess and more seriousness. what makes Lexx unique is that it doesn't give a poo poo about canon and world building and all that nerd stuff that Trekkers and Star Wars fans fight bitterly about. it's also a lot better as a weird comedy than as an epic space fantasy thing.

Pop culture respect is not exactly a sign of quality. Also "it would have been better if it were more like every other sci fi show for autists".

It had that plant-thing sexual innuendo, it had awkward ugly middle age man sexual innuendo, and it had that pre-fifth element fifth element girl sexual everything. Seeping with sexual innuendo. Also when they landed in Texas (post Waco, post-Bush) and immediately had conflict with the ATF was super-entertaining for the time.

I think they only built one world in the show and destroyed about almost all of the rest of them, though... I liked the strangeness and oddity and weirdness of the show, but at the same time it seemed to derail itself with being a sexy romp show that can't have too much sex and nudity and a big sci-fi production without the budget to match. I feel it's pretty fleshed out and created a strange universe that makes sense, it feels like there's some continuity in it, but if it had gone scaled the tone back to even more like that of Farscape it might have at least scored some more audience awareness via second-run syndication on local TV, WGN, etc.

A lot of those episodes felt like hosed up dreams. The only time I've ever seen weird poo poo like that is in David Lynch movies.

LEXX may have been weird, but look at TV today - it's almost without exception the same old "reality" poo poo recycled. Every generation deserves a LEXX.

Have watched LEXX a few times over the years but am hazy, and am I right in assuming Stan has never had sex with someone HE wanted, even pre-LEXX. He gets raped a few times though.

Lexx is like DeviantArt: No matter what you randomly decide to see, you will instantly be exposed to creepy (semi)erotic imagery within a moment whether that was your intention or not.
