One request I make is that you do as many bossfights as you can in drag.

Also you need to wear a different outfit for every cutscene.

So I'll mention it in the next video (should be posting it tonight) but I'm not planning on being too crazy with the clothing options. I just don't want to obscure the facial expressions or gently caress with animations. I'm thinking I'll do a bonus video at some point with good cutscene/outfit options. Or during side mission or collection videos.

I actually think the original Dead Rising has a pretty darn good script. It's very Romero, complete with a somewhat in-your-face social commentary message and the zombies being metaphorical. It is and was topical, the imagery worked, and it has a number of really rather emotional scenes. I really like the main villains' death scene and the ending sequence has a really cool quote from an obscure English poem to boot.

It's...it's pretty good, is what I'm saying.

Totally agreed. And I thought Dead Rising 2 did a decent job at at least aping the original game's tone and plotline. I mean it clearly felt like an "homage", but it couldn't be quite the same as the original without the original developers behind it.

As for Dead Rising 3, I liked it but I definitely wouldn't put it in the same league as the first two. I felt like Dead Rising 3 was a misstep, they added some things I like (crafting anywhere, modding vehicles together on-the-fly) but took away some of the series' more unique elements like a strict event timer and limited saving. "Nightmare Mode" supposedly has all that in, I'll have to give it a try to say if it really feels like the older games.

Hello! I see you.

It was an accident. Dr. Barnaby and his team were trying to "use the abnormal but useful properties" of the Santa Cabeza wasps to solve the beef shortages (to make bigger cows and/or speed up reproduction or something, I'm not entirely sure how the whole process was supposed to work, but whatever because zombie video game), but because they were scientists in a Capcom game they ended up creating zombie cows instead, and the infection spread to humans when the wasps escaped the lab. So yeah, they weren't trying to make wasps that turned people into zombies.

Also, I just watched the story recap episode. Gotta love that Deadly Premonition otherworld music.

I haven't seen enough of Dick here to know this for certain, but I get a big feeling, just from the jukebox and him stopping to kick a zombie, that he's not done messing things up for the team quite yet. I've seen enough zombie movies to know that the guy established early on as the buffoon is just destined to do something moronic right near the end.

Also, if I'm understanding "illegal" to mean that you're infected but not chipped, how would our new camera-watching friend know at a glance that the person we're going to meet is an illegal? For that matter, how does a chip inserted into you automatically inject you with anti-zombie medicine? Unless the chip also comes with a giant reservoir of Zombrex for each registered infectee, I don't see how anyone expected this system to work.

It's a reference to the Africanized Honey Bee or as it's today mostly known as; The Killer Bee, which was created via exactly that sort of gently caress-up! The fact that is was a western gently caress-up that ends up causing all kinds of poo poo for Latin America but even the article barely cares about that part I've always found a nice touch. It certainly made me empathize more with the villain from 1 at least.

The actual purpose of Dick is less story and more game play oriented in that he's your coop buddy (so that you don't just have a clone of yourself running around with you). Otherwise he has no real impact on the story.

Also if anyone is interested, Dead Rising 3 for the PC is currently 25% on Steam for Halloween; it might be 50% during Christmas though, but there's still a discount there.

Man, I never really thought to talk to Rhonda or Dick or any other NPC between missions, I guess that would've helped fill in their characters a little bit since the story basically tells you nothing about them other than they're people who Nick got to know over the course of a few months during the outbreak. But we the players aren't really told who exactly they are or why we should care about them.

Par for the course with Dead Rising as a series, it took until 2 with Chuck's daughter Katie to even give you a reason to care about NPC's ingame, Frank back in 1 had zero reasons to give a poo poo about anyone, a fact he makes quite clear a few times infact.

Maybe you're right, maybe it's just the fact that we're introduced to the characters in the previous two games that they actually seem worth giving a drat about. Here, we get no introductions it's just "here's Dick, here's Rhonda... and I guess your name's Nick or something".

poo poo, you ain't seen nothing yet. But overall the tone of the game is darker, but it's something you probably wouldn't pick up on unless you've played all the games in the series and then play this one for yourself. Zombies are deadlier and there's more of them, Nick doesn't make wisecracks, the palette is more muted, etc., which doesn't make it more serious but it does take away from the carnival funhouse atmosphere of the previous games.

Excited to finally see this game being taken on. I did a 4-month internship at CV at the end of last year, during this game's final crunch & release, and it's nice seeing somebody interested enough to share it with other people after watching developers spend their evenings at the office.

Also, there's another way to induce Zhi's angry stamping. In the cutscene before the fight, he gets mad when a zombie bumps into his gong. That's supposed to hint to you that you can roll into/attack the gongs to piss him off. All of the psychos actually have a non-voice way to induce their grab-able state, so that playing without Kinect doesn't significantly change the fight.

I guess they could justify it by way of how we're in a normal California city, instead of stuck inside a Middle-West (heh) Super Mall or Casino Resort city, with all their bright lights and costumes and toys.

I really like what you're doing with this game. I second the suggestion that you wear ridiculous costumes for cutscenes, but if you're waiting to do it for a "best of" video, that'll be ok too.

Also something I've found odd about pretty much every zombie movie, game, book, etc. Is something I've only seen people do in a single manga(I am a Hero): loving quarantine people for a set number of hours after they've been out scouting/scavenging, no matter if they had actual contact with zombies or not.

Yeah. As far as I remember, the idea was that there would probably be some reasonably large subset of Xbox One owners that would play with the Kinect features off. A few of the later ones are more fun and interesting than gong smacking.

Also, I'm not sure if you were planning on bringing it up later, but CV made it known that each optional psycho represents one of the 7 deadly sins. Zhi is Wrath.

For people who don't know, these assholes were the absolute worst, they'd set up shop in the outdoor area of the shopping center in that truck and most of the time, the crappy AI would have them driving into trees constantly but the second you are escorting survivors, they seem to gain a brain, oh and they were the only boss who would RESPAWN the following day when killed.

There's a specific aspect of American culture I'd say this game is "about" but it doesn't really come into play until later in the game. It may not be a particularly surprising theme but it still ties into major spoilers and what-not. Umm, Dead Rising does take some cues from Romero, who made those very points about consumerism, yes. The main villain echoes those in the first game, but his background is much more connected American imperialism, though the incident itself is a copy of the killer bee fiasco.

That's also why all the malls.
